I would prefer to have a Friday wedding because it's cheaper. However, I know they are somewhat inconvienent for guests who work.
I was thinking about having the date be Friday July 3, 2009. This is the day before the 4th and a majority (not all) of people might have the day off/half day. I thought this might be more convenient for guests in terms of not being rushed and being able to enjoy themselves more.
However, it will also be a holiday weekend.
What do people think?

FYI: We have only 1 out of town guests. It's family member and they always fly in a week before holidays/weddings, so they can spend extra time w/ the fam and attend pre-wedding events.

I think it sounds like a good idea. Just remember that anyone that has to travel will also have to take the Thursday off, but then again, they will have the entire weekend to relax before they have to travel back. I think you should go with it.

Fridays and Saturdays are better days to have a wedding.
I had mine on a Friday @ 7, so people could get off work. I live in central AR and had a friend come from 2 hours 25 mins, she got off work and got here in time.
Holidays(holiday weekends) are sometimes more expensive than other times.

Is your venue still going to charge you less on the 3rd?
The thing about holiday weekends is you tend to not get the same discount as you would on a regular Friday. They aren't stupid and know why you are choosing the date so generally won't discount it. The reason Friday's get discounted is because nobody wants them (in theory), with a freebie work day like July 3rd competition is just as big as a regular Saturday.

I think it sounds like a good idea. However, do you think your family would be more inclined to stay in the area to attend the wedding, or might they want to plan a 3-day weekend?

If you only have one out of towner than pick any date. If you give people enough notice they can get the time off. My wedding is in April 2008 and I told the out of towners in September.

I'd be pissed if someone monopolized my holiday weekend with their wedding. They'd probably get a card with a small check inside.

That is not your worry, if they want to be there, they will, if they have to take vacation, call out, or quit a job. they will be there, if they do not come you will not miss them because all that matters at that moment is your and your new husband,
congrats
