My fiance proposed this weekend and we are both very happy. We have been together for 2 1/2 years and plan to marry 2 years from now (I would like a fall/winter wedding). My parents know my fiance very well and like him as a person. However, they are very reserved people and aren't the type to "jump for joy" at news like this. Even though I am 24 and he is 27, they are going to think we are too young.

I am just hoping for some suggestions of how to word the news. Thanks!

Ok. I gave my boyfriend specific details about what I wanted as an engagement ring. I told him either at least a 1/2 carat solitaire or a 2 carat bridal set. He proposed, but diamond is 1/4 carat and all this other crap on the sides is 1/4 carat. It is a beautiful ring. I don't want to give it back, but its not what I asked for. This is so much of a problem that I have not shared with my co-workers my engagement because they all have no less than a 1 carat diamond. I am a professional and even the secretary has no less than a 1 carat diamond. I have considered talking with him, but I dont want to hurt his feelings. I gave him specific instructions, but I think he was anxious to propose so he just got what he could get instead of taking time to save. Should I suggest that he still buy what I asked for?

I was seeing this show Tell me you love me " where this couple just walked in and got married in a chapel and it seemed so romantic cause its just them 2 ... I always tell my fiance to marry me that same day and he just laughs and says no honey we are gonna wait till my parents can be their. Am I crazy?? I rather have a nice honey moon

We hope to have the vows exchanged on the beach, this January, with just the celebrant, us and witnesses. we don't mind toque, glove and long-john-ing it. I was just wondering if anybody else had any other fun ideas.

bests!

If you are having a year long engagement, how many months before the wedding is a good time to go get engagement photos made?

My shower was Sunday, and I've written out many of the thank you cards, but haven't written any to those I don't know well (like some of his cousins) who attended the shower. I just don't know what to say to fill the card. After I thank them for coming and for the gift, I just don't know what else to say, and I don't want to leave a large blank area on the card. Anyone have any ideas? They are a wonderful family and everyone has been great to me, I just feel a bit awkward writing the notes to those I don't really know. Any suggestions would be great. I'm looking for just 2 or 3 sentences. Thanks in advance.

Ok guys here is my story ; me and my bf have been together for the past 3 years but we only moved in together 4 months ago with rent. I have been offered a job but i will only be able to start working in few weeks because of paper work etc. He has to move to a different town at the end of Jan 2008 and he consideres to buy a flat and pay bank and mortgage instead of wasting money on rent. because i cannot take mortgage at the moment he consideres i should pay him rent if i want to move in with him so he can pay the mortgage. he said that if i do not want to do that then he would rent the spare room to someone else anyway to help him pay for his mortgage and i should find a place of my own to rent; Do you think it is fair of him to ask me to pay him rent considering that we would live together as a couple and all.... and split the living costs too; he also said that once i save up some money i could buy my share of mortgage for the house and finally own part of the property;until then...

My daughter is a Mormon. I am a Catholic. She chooses to have her wedding ceremony in Utah. My son and I will be attending the ceremony. The plane tickets and hotel for this trip for both my son and I should run about $1,000.00. I would like to give her a dinner celebration when she returns home in the summer. This should cost, on the low end for the dinner about $1,500.00, plus flowers - $100.00, invitations - $20.00. My dilemma is that I don't want to charge anything on my credit cards. I am feverishly trying to pay them off. At this time, I can only put the minimums on them and put the rest on my daughter's expenses. What can I do to raise more funds? I presently work 2 jobs. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Please offer suggestions for the following invitation. I love the wording, but I want to make sure it isn't breaking etiquette rules and that the punctuation, capitalization, etc are correct:

Because you have shared in their lives
with your friendship and love

Bride's Name
and
Groom's Name

together with their parents
invite you to share the beginning
of their new life together
when they exchange marriage vows
Saturday, the fifth of April
Two thousand and eight
at twelve o’clock in the afternoon

Location
Address
City, State Zip

Reception immediately following ceremony

My cousin has asked me to plan her wedding. I have only done this once before (my own small wedding). But hers is going to be over 300 guests. I have the big stuff covered, ie. flowers, decorations, etc. But I want the details. Things I should remember for the big day. Like assigning someone to transport the guest book from the church to the reception hall. Or making sure the a/c is on at the hall. Are there things that you forgot or remembered. I need it all. All advise is appreciated and can never be too much. Thank you in advance. Tracy

Research shows: It can take up to six months for a bride to find that special wedding gown, get it ready and fitted. The groom has the option to rent his tuxedo. Are men really concerned about what kind of wedding gown their future brides are going to wear on their wedding day?

My married parents and his divorced parents are all making monetary contributions to our wedding, and my fiance and I are also paying for a portion. How do I word the invitations? My mother insists on her name being on the invitation.

or anyone else who wants to answer...

I'm having two because my family lives 2 hours away and won't drive up to columbus ohio.

Anyways, the one for up here in columbus is mostly his side of the family, There are alot of people on his side that I do not know and it may be very akward/uncomforable for me, so I considered a jack n jill (where it's coed and the groom can attend) but one of the hostesses doesn't believe it's tradition...for ANY men to be there...

Have any of you dealt with this? How?

Usually you pick a shower theme such as a Kitchen Shower and people bring things for the kitchen. I'm 33 and my finace is 36. It's our 1st marrage but we both have everything we need for the house. What I want is to have a spa shower where people bring pampering things such as hair products, beauty products, perfume, etc...but I also would like the guest to bring me a few of their favorite recipes so I can put together a cookbook from our family and friends. I feel like if I just ask for a recipe, guests won't know what else to bring as a gift and I'll get stuff I don't need. People tell me to be specific and ask for what you what you want...but how do you have a Pampering/Spa/Recipe shower? I don't want to have 2 showers, just one. Any ideas will be appreciated.

I'm full of questions today . . .
How did alterations go for your dresses? Did you go with a chain or private salon? How much did it add to the base price of your dress?
I went to a private salon last night and had such a wonderful experience! The base price of the dresses I liked are $650-$800 but will require some alterations for me. I'm wondering if I can still come in close to $1,000 for the dress or if that is unrealistic given the base price of the dress. The dress will need:
- to be hemmed
- if i go with a lace-up back it won't need to be taken in (the laces take care of that) but if I opt for a non-lace up back it will need to be taken in
- the shop will have to add plain, short sleeves (i've got a relative willing to do hand-beading if we think the dress needs it)

This is prompted by a question I just saw on here. Not knocking anyone for doing these, or for not.
I'm curious & I want to ensure my guests have a good time - do out of town guests expect something extra - even if it is just a map or guidebook to local attractions?
How many of you are planning to do these or not?
