If you are having a year long engagement, how many months before the wedding is a good time to go get engagement photos made?

Well I personally don't know if there is a timeline or particular time you should have them done. My fiancee and I had ours done about 7 months after our engagement only because the guy we chose for wedding photography was offering a special until the end of the month with $400 off and free engagement pics. Well, I think most people do it shortly after they are engaged. I don't think you necessarily have to do it at any certain time. My fiance and I are just getting engaged next month but we had some pictures done of us (coincidentally along with some pictures we were having done of the kids) and we are going to use them as our engagement photos and send them out with our Christmas cards. Do them at a time where you can wear the kind of outfits you want to get the look you want.

I don't think there is a 'rule' on this, but my vote would be for fairly soon after you are engaged so everyone can enjoy the photos for a while before receiving the wedding invitations.

I don't think there's really a timeline for this. We're having our's done tomorrow...been engaged since mid-September and getting married next August.

we got ours done one year before the wedding, as soon as we picked our photographer...but 1.5 years into the engagement.
you should really get them when you get engaged!

there is no timeline for this! :)
My fiance and I have been engaged since last december, we got them done this past april but the photographer didn't do good work and we told her we werent pleased and she flipped out on us, we found another photographer quickly and we just had them redone on november 10th. :)

Whenever you want? Maybe in time for the announcement in the paper if you are doing one. I did mine shortly after the engagement so my mom could put it in the paper. CONGRAUTULATIONS!
