My shower was Sunday, and I've written out many of the thank you cards, but haven't written any to those I don't know well (like some of his cousins) who attended the shower. I just don't know what to say to fill the card. After I thank them for coming and for the gift, I just don't know what else to say, and I don't want to leave a large blank area on the card. Anyone have any ideas? They are a wonderful family and everyone has been great to me, I just feel a bit awkward writing the notes to those I don't really know. Any suggestions would be great. I'm looking for just 2 or 3 sentences. Thanks in advance.

Keep it simple and don't try to force it! If you don't know them that well, they won't expect you to have a lot to say. Try something like this for members of his family:

Dear XXX,
Thank you so much for attending my bridal shower. I'm happy you were able to make it! I also wanted to thank you for the lovely gift. The XXXX was so thoughtful.

I hope we can spend more time together soon and I look forward to joining your family and getting to know you better. Thank you again for coming!

Sincerely,
XXXX

You can mention that you are excited about celebrating your wedding with them and getting to know them better. You appreciate them attending your shower. Tell them how you will use the gift they purchased.

As an fyi - there are some great books that have sample thank you notes so they don't all say the same thing.

I use a basic formula when I write thank you notes. Say thank you for the item they got and say it's really nice or pretty or some applicable adjective. Then tell them that it will be really useful when you are doing whatever and will make life so much easier. Then say how excited you were about the party and enjoyed talking to everyone. Then thank them for taking the time to think of you for your special day. I hope this makes sense, I find it makes people feel like the notes are more individualized.

On all my thank you's I wrote how I'd use the gift or why I liked it. Also, if I knew they were coming to the wedding I'd write something about how I was looking forward to seeing them that day. I also used "I really appreciate your thoughtfulness" (or some variation) to those I did not know well. Also, you can always mention that it was nice that they came to the shower and that you enjoyed getting to know them better.

I hope that helps.

Maybe... "I am so excited to be a part of your family, thank you for attending my shower and welcoming me into your family." or think of something from the shower that they did for you and write it in the card like if they won a game you played or something. I know I said thank you for some of the love recipies if I liked theirs more than others. Thank them for some memory from your shower that they made possible.

"Thank you for attending my shower and for your very generous gift! (insert here the gift item and why you like it)

Although we haven't know each other long, I hope to get to know you better. You and your family has been wonderful to me, and it would be my absolute honor to be your friend! See you soon (or at the wedding)!"

You could add, "I am looking forward to becoming a part of the family and getting to know you more (or spend more time with you). Thank you for such a warm greeting into the family. I look forward to seeing you at the wedding.

"Kim,

Thank you so much for your generous gift. I know Tom is going to love making me coffee every morning now! I'm so glad you were able to come to much shower. It was so nice to see you and your mom. Hopefully after all this wedding activity calms down, we'll be able to get together for dinner or drinks. Can't wait to see you at the wedding!

Love,
Bride"

I think you may have answered your own question!

You're excited to be joining such a wonderful family. Everyone you have met has been so good to you and you're looking forward to being a part of it.

Congrats & best wishes.
