actually if its formal and you are unsure of what to wear, the best things to opt for is black because black goes with anything.....if you dress it up with some funky shoes and a colorful bag you will fit right in....id coordinate with what your bf's going to wear like his tie color or something....i think black is actually a great choice......just dont wear white!

This can be interpreted in different ways. Some people consider black a formal color and in that case appropriate. I've been to a formal black and white wedding where I wore black and it was appropriate. Call the bride and ask her what the dress code for women is..or there should be a RSVP name and # on the invitation for the wedding and reception. If you don't wear dresses or cannot afford to purchase a dress you will never wear again, you might try borrowing one from a friend or family member.

I see people wear black to weddings all the time during the winter months. Its not so much of a faux paux anymore i don't think. And esp because you aren't a dress skirt kinda gal (i'm not either!!) finding a dress you actually like and feel comfortable in was like you said, months and months of searching. So that being said, i think its perfectly ok for you to wear to a wedding. And you said theres no dress code on the invite for women...just for future guide...if the men are asked to wear suits then its a semi-formal or formal wedding and always wear a dress if suits are requested. Have fun with your dress and i'm sure you wll look lovely in it! :)

Black is always appropriate for a formal event. You could add a little color with a scarf, necklace, or bag. Then again, if you're really not comfortable wearing a dress you can wear a dressy pantsuit. I have a pair of chiffon pants and a long-sleeved beaded blouse that I've worn to several formal events. Each time, I receive tons of compliments. You could try somthing like that, too.

If you've found a dress that you like, and it is a FORMAL event, then black is perfectly acceptable. If you want to spruce it up a bit, get a bright colored scarf or shawl or something of that nature. There's no rule saying that you MUST wear a dress, but if you would feel better doing so, wear what you LIKE.

The idea that black is not worn for weddings is an old idea. I'm even having my bridesmaids wear black! I would definitely recommend adding color to the dress. In addition to a bag and shoes, I'd suggest a scarf, or a wrap. Black is such a useful color because everyone looks good in it, that the stigma has been removed.

Definitely wear the black dress, people wore black to my wedding! Wear colorful shoes with it (Red would be nice). You'll look great and feel more comfortable if you like the dress.

For formal weddings it is ok to wear black as long as you look classy and not trashy. If you really don't like dresses wear a nice pants suit or something those can be very formal and look really nice. You want to remember that weddings can be a long event so you want to be comfortable.

Since you are not a dress person, you can wear a very nice pants and silk shirt. You will still look presentable, and son't worry, the focus will be on the bride. She will have enough attention, that you won't have to worry, just be comfortable and wish them well.
