Just as the maid of honor doesn't buy the girls' dresses (and certainly not the bride's!!) the best man does not buy the groom's tux. He also does not pay for all the tux's the guys will wear. The only way a groom could get a 'free' tux is if he goes to a tux rental place that offers a free tux rental after so many paid. For example, we went to Men's Wearhouse, and after 5 paid rentals (ie. groomsmen, father of the bride, father of the groom, ring bearer) then the groom gets his rental fee waived. Hope this helps!

Sometimes if you have a large bridal party (usually 6 or more) the Groom's Tux is free, therefore the saying that the Best Man pays for the Groom.

Depends on where you live. In the UK it is common for the bride and groom to pay for the dresses/tuxes for all the bridal party. In the US, each member pays for his/her own outfit. However the best man is not responsible for paying for the groom's tux--but is responsible for reminding the groom to get his tux and perhaps picking the groom's tux up the day before.

Sort of. Each of the groomsmen pay for their own tux rentals if it's a formal wedding. Usually what the shop will do is if there are enough groomsmen the groom will get his tux for free as a promo to get him shopping at their store.
We are only having like two and are just having them wear dark suits. If for some reason the grooms had been free because of a sale like that I would have just divided it up equally as a discount to be shared among all of the guys.....but most times the couple will keep it for themselves.

No, the Best Man does not pay for anyones Tux's. He can pay for his own if this is the agreement he has with the Bride & Groom. I got married 45 years ago and we all just paid for our own outfits. Weddings are too expensive these days for one person to be paying for the cost of all the Tux's.

The best man pays for his own formal wear, unless the groom offers to pick up the tab. Most tux places give the groom a free rental if he has so many people in the wedding party.

the best man pays for his tux and helps out with the guys night out.
the groom pays for his tux (some shops offer deals, like if you can get 5 people to rent tuxes from them then the groom's is free)

When you plan the budget with the bride, you add in the cost of RENTING your tux as well as the groomsmen and you pay for them all. Most rental shops give the groom his tux FREE when you rent at least 3 other tuxedos from the same place. Depending on circumstances, like if you're young and a little broke and all your buddies have great jobs, then sometimes the guys offer to pay their own rentals. Same with the bridesmaids. If the family has some cash, then they pay for all the dresses but sometimes the girls chip in for partial payment or even pay for their own to help out. If the bride demands matching shoes, she should pay for them! If the groom is BUYING his own tuxedo or dressy suit, he has the option of asking the guys to rent black suits or he can rent them for him. Many groom's families nowadays buy a tailor-made black or charcoal dress suit for their son to be married in so that he has a great "best dress suit" to start his married life. After all, if the bride's parents buy her gown and it's used only once, doesn't it make sense for the groom's parents to get him a great $2,000 suit that he will wear for ten years or more!! (And it's incentive for him to keep in shape!)
