Marriage & Divorce - 27 July 2007

Prior to agreeing to marriage, my wife knew i liked to 'play' the field so to speak and there was risk i did not quite have this out of my system yet. We also agreed that what she did not know, would not hurt her. Anyway, for the first six years, there were less than 15 occassions where i found entertainment outside the home if you know what I mean, so it was manageable. The last year the pace has picked up for some reason, its as if women are throwing themselves at me. My wife is my true love and I want to remain married - shes a great housekeeper and good friend. Anyway, she recently asked me if Id been loyal - how am I supposed to answer that one?!? If i tell her, she'll be upset even though we agreed years ago that what she did not know would be better for her. Any suggestions are appreciated - I don't want a divorce.

I have a good husband. He is a good father to my one year old daughter, he helps me clean sometimes, and he is mostly sensitive to my feelings. However, he is generally uninterested in me unless he wants to have sex. He will not talk to me for hours at a time, and I feel like I am living with a miserable person. When we go out with my family he is bored and unexcitable. He does not take me on dates or surprise me with any romantic gestures. I am 22 and he is 30, and while at first i didnt think age was an issue, I am begining to think that I am too young for him. I want to have fun, especially after a difficult year working full time and taking care of a growing baby. I feel like the best solution is to separate, because it is too late to work on our marriage. I cheated on him. (he's unaware ) I do not feel I am a bad person for what I did, I think I have just given up on my marriage. He says he will change, and I believe him, I just dont know if I care anymore.

My husband is an alcoholic/drug addict. We had a huge fight on June 13 and I haven't heard of seen him since. I have tried calling his family, friends and nobody has heard from him either. He does have a job working offshore and i don't know if he is even working. I have called and left messages at his job, and still no response. How can a husband do this to his wife? Should I take his behavior as him telling me that he has not intentions of ever coming back? his alcohol and drug addiction has been the very root of our problems but i have always stuck it out with him and been there for him. he makes excellent money working offshore and I have not seen one dime! what would you do?

I moved heaven and earth, moved out of state and re-established myself here to make the relationship work. Unfortuantely, it didn't. I told her I couldn't make the finances work. She quit her job shortly after I came here. She told me that I wasn't concerned about her because I waited to tell her I was having trouble supporting us both, and paying my child support and alimony. (I didn't leave my ex-wife for her, ex-wife left me for someone else). I'm getting tired. Any hope for this?

Hi,
My husband was talking to a girl in bar and got into trouble pushing a cop who tried to talk with the girl ( both my hus and the other girl were intoxicated ) , he went to jail and came out in bail, now he again goes to bar with women, stays late in night like till 11 pm. Is he cheating on me ? or am I very much possesive ? My problem is Im 8 weeks pregnant with our first baby, Can i trust him and keep the baby or do abortion, he is very good at blaming me and he talks in such a way that everybody beleives him, Im afraid that he will take the baby away from me if I go for divorce. He physically and verbally abuses me even now. What shall I do ?

Believe me, it's not 'for the kids'. I would have much preferred they got a divorce in my early teens. I realized it when I was eleven, that their marriage had failed. It wasn't my idea. I was for a divorce.

When you are in a relationship with someone who doesn't love you back or seem to care, how do you take the first step in leaving them?

I have been in a relaitonship with my boyfriend for 2 years and it's been nothing but heartache and hurt. We've had the same fights and he's never going to change. How do I just pack up and go? He'll be out of town next week, so it's the perfect chance to make a clean break.

Is being thousands of miles apart and getting a sore back an excuse to break the agreement that was made that we would not go to opposite sex people to get a massage?

My husband says his back was really bothering him and he didn't think it would be a big deal to go get a quick, innocent massage.

I don't think it was the massage that bothered me, so much as his flippant attitude about it. Also, we had made an agreement. Should I be upset at him or am I over-reacting?

do parents deliberately try to be assholes to each other during divorce ? all they end up doing is making an *** out of themselves my mom is a ***** she is getting married to a man I dont like my dad is a dick bc he likes to treat me as his counselor. all they keep doing is making me not want to live with either of them btw my mom and dad haven't even been split up for 3 months lil soon for my mother to get engaged eh ? yeah so I think they try to make each other sad but all the hell they are doing is hurting me !!!!!!!!!!!! My husband in the Millitary, threatens me sexually all the time on the phone, he will be back to visit, threatens to Divorce and take the kids if I don't obey him, I live in fear that the kids could possibly ever be alone with him, he says what he will do to me sexually, and if I say, what if I don't want to, he says that's to bad! he is crazy, any advise, with custody, kids have seen him two weeks out of the year, they are happy right now, and very loved! supervised visitation is the only thing I would feel would be safe.

Or rephrased in another way, is it worse to think of your wife when you are having sex with another woman or is it worse to think of another woman when you are having sex with your wife (or swap genders).

Please don't just say "they're both bad", I know they are both bad. Most thinking people see ethics as a hierarchy rather than just black and white, good and bad. How do those fit into your spectrum?

(btw - I'm not married and I'm not trying to encourage either behavior, I'm just curious what people think)

Yesterday my wife told me she slept with "some guy" 2 years ago. She says she is sorry and I think she is but I feel like she's been lying to me for 2 years. We have two kids. I don't even know how to talk to her anymore, I'm just mad and sad. She is the one I have always confided in and now I don't feel like I have anyone to talk to. I just feel broken.
