My husband and I were watching the news and saw that there was a house fire about 20 miles from our home and the mom and the children got out but the dad died. My husband started talking to me about if that ever happened to us and he said, "If our house were on fire and I had to choose between you and our children I'd choose you. I'd definetely save you."

Now, maybe some women would be happy, but this angered me because our children are supposed to come first.

So I said, "are you out of your mind?"

and he said, "why? what would you do?"

and I said, "save our children! thats our job as their parents to protect them! are you insane? if you saved me and let our children die I'd never forgive you and Id probably just end up offing myself."

And he said, "wow. now I know where we stand."

Now he is angry with me. Am I wrong? Im upset with him because I feel parents should put the safety of their children first. Ugh. Advice please?!?!?!

I remember as a kid standing on tip toe, looking into the big old Silvercross prams outside shops to see the little pink bundle inside. There were no babies in the family, I was the youngest so babies fascinated me.Our village had small shops and the prams were just too big to go inside.Does anyone else recall people leaving babies outside shops?

A friend of mine told me that when her daughter was little she couldn't get her to wear dresses. She said that her little girl just refused to wear them. Why are parents arguing or debating with their children?? When you tell a child to do something they need to do it or else their will be consequences to pay. Are these days over?? Are all parents allowing their children run the household and telling them what they will not do?
When I was a child I did as told or else I got my behind beat. This didn't happen too often because after one time, I learned my lesson. So are you one of those parents who's children run you or do you run your house hold???

Hi all....Ok there is a 13 years old boy who lives just besides my home. He loves my 2.9 years old son a lottttt.....He takes my son into his arms and literally squeezes my son....my son for sure feels the discomfort and pain but very young to express it out. once I saw my son pressing his rib cage with his hands....I asked him what happened...he said "nothing"....

I saw this once or twice and told the juvenile not to do that. He tries to comprehend his act and says that he is not hurting my kid...and says he is just pretending that way and not at all holding him tight....But I can see the force that he is using....How can I tell him not to do that...politely????? I am very much worried about this.....This boy though he is 13...is a bit immature types (NOT mentally retarded)...so I have to tell him thinking he is a 8 years old kid....please advice.....

My husband's aunt gave my daughter like six pairs of white cotton (the thick kind) tights all the same size (they were on sale for 79 cents each) so now I have all of these tights that are all alike! Any ideas for decorating these tights and making them unique? How can I stripe them different colors or polka-dot them?
Thanks!!! :)

I live in a fairly large home. My kids have their own playroom upstairs and they have plenty of room for their toys and "stuff" in their bedrooms. Their playroom has a DVD, TV, stereo, couch, toys, etc. and yet they still insist on "hanging out" in my LR, the nicest room in my house. Subsequently I am constantly picking up and cleaning up after them and it's making me nuts! I have new furniture and my oldest has already ripped the upholstery! They leave fingerprints everywhere and toys everywhere. As far as my BR goes, that too seems to have become their playroom as well. They leave toys, games, stuffed animals, artwork, etc. all over the place and I no longer have a place to call my own. They have zero respect for our nice living spaces and I am at my wits end. Any suggestions on how to "retrain" them to hang out upstairs before my LR and BR are ruined?

Disclaimer: I apologize if my question offends anyone. Also, please no heckling or jokes or saying nasty things about my niece.

I walked in on my niece yesterday in my daughter's room. Her underwear were off and she was letting my wife's shih tzu lick her "down there".

It was really awkward and I didn't know what to do or say. She stopped immediately and pulled her clothes up.

I looked away and told her to come downstairs for pizza then I picked up our dog and put him in his crate out in the garage.

Fortunately my daughter, who is 5, was already downstairs and didn't see her cousin.

Should I tell her Mom (my sister)? Do I tell my wife? Does the fact that she was messing around with the dog mean she could/has done the same with my daughter? I know it's immature, but I don't want my niece to come visit anymore.

hey i am a father of 4 boys and recently we have had some problems over bed time.

their bed times are

13 year old = 9pm, lights out 9:30
10 year old 8 pm= lights out8:30
5 year old twins = 6:30 (lights out after finishing reading a story)

now these bed times havent changes since last summer when they all got an extra half hour and during the winter they where fine with it.

now my elder two are giving me real attitude and problems about it, the problem is because its summer time the sun does not set till 9:30 and its only getting later, they say its unfair to be going to bed when the sun is still up.

now before i start laying down the law, do these times seem ok? and should i just blow their complaints off as standard stuff. they get an extra hour during school hoildays but not on weekends, i took weekend times away due to them constantly argueing about them and not respecting the times, bed times are a real issue in this house

My niece and nephew had been taken away from their mom three times and were given back all three times. Clearly, a cycle is being repeated. I'm afraid that my nephew will harm himself, beacause he's depressed. I'm not at all happy with the response that I was given, about the mother not losing her parental rights. What does it take for something to be done about this situation? The agency that was supposed to help my niece and nephew has failed them! Help! I do not want to see my loved ones on the 10:00 news!

Okay, my fiancee has been dad to my 3 children for a year and a half. I have a 14 year old son, and up until 2 months ago, things were fine. Now suddenly it seems my fiancee hates my son and verbally degrades him, TO ME. Calls him a "punk *** piece of ****", a loser, a **** up, you name it. I try to tell him how this hurts me, but he says "Well what about the total disrespect, lying and back-talk I get from him?" Note that my fiancee is 50 and very old school. He doesn't understand teenagers today. My son is going through a lot of up's and down's due to my divorce from his step-dad and being bounced from house to house throughout his life. When I try to mention these things to my fiancee, he says I am making excuses for my son and that I need to straighten him out or else. He expects me to back-hand him in the face when he "talks back", and I don't believe in doing that. He is trying to apply 1950's parenting principles on my children and it simply won't work in this day and age.

I have no kids but my boyfriend has two. I love them to death but after a couple of days, I am ready for them to go home. I feel bad because I want to be a mother one day but I don't know if I have the patience. How will I know if I am ready to be a mother (emotionally) or do I get those instincts once I become one?

I wouldn't ask but it's my daughter's (first child absolute doll) favorite and I'd hate to think I was exposing her to a drug culture at such a young age. I feel terrible and silly for not figuring this out. The other mothers at daycare seem so much more on top of these things than me.

Thanks,

I have 3 babies a son who just turned 3 and twin girls who also just turned 2. I have tried a little potty seat but they want to play with/in it more than sit on it and I have tried getting them on the big potty. It all only worked for a couple of days and then they just lost interest in it and they havent done it since and wont do it even when I make them sit on their potty for 15 min or so. They wait untill the pull up is on and then do it. I have tried treats and praise but they only really go on the potty every so often but wont do it on a regular basis. Can anyone "who knows what it is like and succeded let me know what you did?"
