I contacted child protective service about a child that said his mother was hitting him , causing him bloody lips and bruised nose. The mother screamed at me and called me a liar and freaked out on me saying I made it up even though someone else was there to hear her son say this. I believe she is going to retaliate in some way , Is there anything that can be done ?

This show is about 6-year old girls competing in beauty pageants. These girls are adorable w/o all the "fixing up" their moms are doing to them. But, I'm watching and the moms are doing everything from spray-tanning them to giving them "false teeth" to cover up the gaps in their teeth from loosing teeth. After the winners are announced, one little girl asks her mom "Am I number one?" That just broke my heart. I just thought "Can you not show your child how special she is w/o giving her a crown??"

I don't agree with beauty pageants. I really don't understand why parents want to do this to their children. I have a 2 year old that, from the day she was born, people have just made a fuss over her and said she looks like a porcelain doll. I know she's a beautiful girl- and I want her to know she's pretty. But I don't want that to be the focus.

Is it parents (moms, especially) trying to make up for something they think they lack? What is it that makes parents do this??

I have 3 kids and today my mother got mad and called my husband who is black the "N" word in front of mine/his children, now I cannot get him to stop saying it. Today I brought him over to my friends house and he called them that as well, well now I cannot bring him over there until it stops because they to are black. I don't know how to get this to stop, any suggestions? I tried talking to him and telling him that he is calling himself that as well and that it is a bad word but all he does is laugh and tells me that if grandma says it that it is alright.

I answered a couple of questions last night about people having problems with their stepkids and disrespect, and I got a few thumbs downs for my opionion. I don't understand why. I fully agree that as adults we should do what we can to try to have a good relationship with our stepkids. However, I also wholeheartedly believe that some kids are very good manipulators and intentionally try to cause problems between their parent and stepparent. I don't believe that it matters if you are talking about a stepchild and stepparent, a child and a teacher, or a child and an adult at the grocery store. Kids are supposed to respect the adults in their lives. I do feel that the biological parents should be the ones who set the rules and dole out the punishment, but there is nothing wrong with a stepparent enforcing the real parents rules or expecting respect from their stepchild. An adult has the right to expect respect from ANY child in their home, even a stepchild. Why is this so unheard of?

I've heard this term a couple of times, and I am wondering about this. It seems to be a method of parenting. Do any of you know what this is? Do you practice it? If you can explain to the best of your knowledge what attacment parenting is and how it has worked for you, that would be great! Thanks so much!

I don't mean the really serious stuff, but the little everyday stuff that makes life easier. For example, mine would be only washable markers in a house with small children.

I am a single parent of a 10 year old boy, I also have 3 daughters. My son - since he was about 8 has stolen four things and has been caught by me. When I confront him about it he denys it or lies." He stole Pokemon cards from a store, a video game from the neighbor. I make him give them back and apologize. He spent the night with a friend and while there a group of boys broke into a trailer. My son stood outside as the other children stole things. I was furious - though he didn't take anything he was as guilty since he was there and didn't tell an adult what they did. He was grounded for 3 months and I took everything away from him -his room was emptied except for a bed. After good behavior he got it back (3 months). He was good for 4 months, until last night when he "accidently" took a video game and I learned that he and a neighbor made a fire in the other child's yard. What can I do with him? Its not like he needs stuff. If he wants something he can ask me for it. I need help!

My sons father does not think that he needs his ADHD medication. (he is not a dr) I don't know where he gets this from since he has only been around for a year (my son is 7) and he has never been to a parent/teacher conference or dr visit. But he says that it's harming him.
My son is old enough to understand that his medication does work for him. His father refuses to give it to him on his weekends. The dr. said that he needs to take it everyday and that is how he prescribed it. I am wondering if this is grounds for me to take him back to court to get his visits supervised? I don't think it's his choice to make if our son needs his meds and it's not fair for my son because his meds really do help him alot. I don't want my son spending the night there if he is not going to give him his medication in the morning...can he be forced to give it to him or risk losing his overnights?

Okay so this is my problem. My seven year old nephew is one of those lil boys who on top of having a super energetic attitude, has a SMART *** mouth. And I will admit I can be strict, but thats only if your attitude asks for it. And I will spank your *** if you get outta line, but only as a last resort. Now I havent been around him for a while and he is steadily getting worse, as he gets older. So now when my sister brings him over I dread it, because I have to restrain myself from getting on his bad ***, because she will have an attitude with me and UNDERMIND me in front of him, which makes him of course think its ok for him to do what he does and also think I cant do nothing to him. But whats messed up is, ill get on him for something and he'll run to his mom(my sister) and then she'll scold me and then not even 2seconds later she's getting on him and spanking him for the SAME thing I was getting on him for. I understand its her kid, but i'm his Uncle. Anybody else go trhough this?

I had an incident last week where a little 7-year old hurt himself (it could have been really bad). I realised then that I am not confident in my ability to control someone else's child - they don't have the discipline I instilled in my own children.
So, if you're a grandparent, how do you cope now we no longer smack?

She seems to be thinking it is my fault she can't see him and seems to be mad at me lately. Would it be wrong to tell her why? All I have said to her so far is that he makes bad choices and the police say he is not to come around me right now. I am feeling like I need to be more honest with her.
