Ie kids playing with matches/ gets caught joyriding etc.

Ground/slap/other punishment

Or time in burns wards or broaght to a pile up with people dying and made to watch why joyriding is bad?

Type thing.

Similar to teaching about drugs making them watch somone go cold turkey.

I considered subscribing to _Child Development_, a scholarly journal that publishes a lot of the leading research articles on parenting and child outcomes, but it's subscription fee is horrendous. (Set for university libraries, not parents, I guess.)

Most magazines seem to give very short shrift to research. They interview so-called experts for ideas from time to time, but you can tell that these folks are rarely research scientists.

So have any of you found any good methods of doing this?

Hello am writing a paper on how spanking a child is a good form of punishment, because it teaches children respect, values, and discipline was wondering if you could give me some examples of why spanking a child is a good form of discipline. thanks

I really struggle with this one. I feel as though they are constantly telling us the way they would handle discipline. It makes me very edgy when I am around these people. I know that I need to get over this and be able to shrug it off. It just annoys me soooo much! Any suggestions?

My son is 7½ years old, he is very sensible and knows to use the crossings and not speak to strangers, I've aloud him to cycle to the top of our road and back but never any further. He is now asking if he can cycle to the sweet shop on his own, I let him go if there is a group of kids going together but he wants the responsibility on his own, he is promissing me he won't speak to strangers and that he will come straight back, but I'ts just sooo scary. Do you think he is too young?? and if so what is the right age??

Obviously there are many joys to parenting and it's not 100% suffering either.

But I'm puzzled by people who participate in parenting forums (this one included) who act like they don't know what you're talking about when you ask a question about the stresses and grief that are inevitable aspects of parenting.

Seriously, what's the motive behind this weird behavior?

It is well known many young adults(teens) do not follow any type of religion. Lets say you have a Sunday school class of children of 20 to begin with now these kids enter middle school and your class drops to 14 or 15, once these move on to High School leave childhood behind your participants in the older youth group of this original class is 2-3. In fact the pastor at our church will tell middle school students do not come to confirmation classes if you do not want to, do not come if your only here because of your parents. Do you think if our kids are given more leaway in choosing their religion etc. in middle school more may continue in high school and beyond? At what point do they decide this is my parents chosen religion and choice to be involved not mine and drop out altogether? Other than my youngest in middle school my older 3 will not step into a church except for weddings and funerals despite a religious upbringing when young.

Hello! I'm a mother of a 12 year old girl. Just earlier I caught my daughter watching tv and touching herself. I was shocked and couldn't say anything. What so you think I should do about it?

If you have delt with this matter, I would appreciate your honest opinion. My friend and I are having a debate on older children stricking their parents and what most people would do about it.

My little brother (5 yrs old) is a PAIN (as you can see from some of my other questions).

I have to babysit him and his friend (also 5) right now. They got out baseball bats and started beating me with them and pretending I'm some sort of bad guy and they're "trying to stop me"

So I called my parents and they got in trouble. They (my brother & his friend) then got mad and now are destroying the house (smashed the doors to the china cabinet, knocked over a lamp, put a hole in the wall, and tried to break a window). My parents don't believe me and I know I'm going to be in serious trouble.

What should I do?!?!?!?!?!

First let me say, I love Yahoo Answers-- especially the Parenting & Baby sections.

I am becoming a little annoyed w/ people pushing their views on others.

Examples:
Spanking vs. Non spanking
Breastfeeding vs. Bottlefeeding
Staying @ Home vs. Working
Original Baby names vs. Common Baby Names

People fail to realize that people have different cultures, beliefs, interests, values, decisions, etc....
In the end we all have one common goal-- to do what's best for OUR family & to raise our children to the best of our ability.

People on Yahoo answers need to respect the decisions of others. Your "way" may not be what a parent decides to do w/ THEIR child. The last time I checked this was a free world.....

When I came around to the side of the car I saw a little girl approx. 2 years old strapped into her car seat screaming her little lungs out. As I stepped in to say something the mother went postal on me. Now I don't know if I made matters better or worse for that little girl. At least it got her to stop hitting her child but I'm not sure if anything I said even made a difference. How would you have handled this situation?

I see so many people here with problems & asking 4 help with their kids. I thought it would be nice to hear about some of the things people enjoy about being parents. For me, I love the chance to feel and act young. I can still do all the silly kid things that I used to enjoy when I was small. And it gives me excellent opportunity to bond with my daughter, which is completely priceless. We watch cartoons together, color, play dolls, go to the park, etc. I really love the time we spend together. What are some things you enjoy about being a parent?

How often do you buy shoes for your little boys? My son is seven and I have to buy him a pair at least every three months sometimes sooner. Boys are tough on their clothes!
