I have 3 boys, age 10mos. 2 1/2yrs. and 14yrs.
You are right!! Once they start walking/playing outside they go fast. And shoes are expensive. Even if my kids don't need them, I'm constantly looking for shoe bargains at seconds stores or thrift stores. If I see a great sale someplace I go ahead and buy up the next couple sizes so they'll be onhand when they grow out of the others (which they also do real fast)!!
I also have a 12yr. old daughter, and she's no easier on them than the boys!

My son age 6 can wear a pair of shoes for about 6-8 months. My daughter age 7 is harder on her clothes & shoes then my son.

I have two boys. (9 & 10) I have bought a $50 shoe one week, and within two weeks they didn't fit anymore! It really happens that fast. I tend to buy them a couple of sizes too big so they last longer.
I've been going to Ross and buying $10 shoes there. They might not last as long, but then you don't mind buying another pair sooner.

I just bought my 6 year old another pair this weekend. Luckily, I now have a girlfriend who is passing some of her son's clothes/shoes down to my son. At least I don't have to go out and buy play clothes for him every season now. There is nothing like buying a new wardrobe every season . . .they grow way too fast. :)

Kids are expensive I have three boys and we go through a lot of shoes. Let your son go bare foot,( if in an area that's free of any debris so he isn't cut or poked) buy a pair for school and a pair for at home .

My youngest two are really good about their shoes but I do have to buy them every 4-6 months because they outgrow them (the youngest sometimes gets hand-me-downs from his older brother). However, my oldest is a completely different story, he needs new shoes more frequently because he kills them. I hate to say it but I usually buy payless for him because even when I spend money on name brand he still destroys them. He does have a good pair when we go out (Vans) but other than that the cheapies. Kids in general are really tough on clothes simply because they are in too much of a hurry to pay a whole lot of attention to what they are doing.

The better quality the shoe the longer they last.
I buy my son shoes about every 4 to 6 months but he can still wear the older ones as well.
I find buying hiking boots to last the longest.

Just wait until he's in middle school and wearing size 13's! The good new is that once they reach about 9th grade or so, they do slow down a bit. The bad news is that boys don't usually stop growing until they are about 20.
