If somone other than my mother did that I'd faltten her, arrest her, and then call the cops to toss her in jail to common assault.
*MY* mother can try, but I outweigh her, I'm faster than her, and I'm not about to let her do so...
Besides, spanking an adult is an assault.
Now, if you are saying that your mother strikes you wherever she can reach you... How serious is it (one swat and all is forgiven, or many blows across your torso)?
For the first, ask why she did it, since I'm sure you'd've done what she asked had she given you an opportunity.
For the second...you may be physically abused. If you have a Teen Hotline in your state or province, call it. If it is particularily bad, you may have to have the cops and the courts involved to keep you safe. Abuse *always* escallates.

First of all, on the back of the ribs is considered child abuse and you can lose your kids for that and possibly be sent to jail. And I spank my kids but only if they have done something that I feel warrants it. That takes alot. I will not spank them for the small stuff, so therefore they rarely ever get spanked. It is important to start disciplining when they are young so that they respect and mind you.

Yep, every time I was rude to her. But I turned out fine, I don't hate my mother and I am not seeing psychologist like many americans that weren't spanked as a kids :) I think it doesn't hurt to be spanked a little bit and the kid then remembers that she did something wrong and got punished for it.

No, spanking teaches kids that when somebody doesn't do what you want them to, you should hit. It sets a bad example
