If you go to church ask around there, or at your doctors office they can refer people to you, or your friends and family might know of someone. The kids i used to babysit when i was younger they were referred to me by one of their friends i didn't necessarily know them.

From experience of being hired talk to your local FE college - I'm a child care student and most FE places have a care section with people who will be CRB checked and have a little experience of children. All the jobs we get at college have been filled in the last two years.
But you have to do what you feel is best for your kids as a parent - I started baby sitting for friends as a pre-teen and kept getting jobs like that through people recommending me - you could ask other parents who they use to baby sit for their children. Teen agers won't normally charge too much... then again there a few agencies out there but they may charge a small fortune.
If it's for regular work talk to friends and advice through you local FE college.

We dont know anyone in our neighborhood so I asked around from my and my husbands coworkers. Also friends might be reluctant to share them - especially if you do activities together, but thats how we found some others.
I made a posting at a bible college near my house, but got no replies. You may have good luck with summer break coming up, for college kids home looking for extra cash, especially ones in child development. You could try a posting at the school also, look online to find the department. Plus I love ones that drive.

How about contacting a local collecge offering child care courses. You could speak to the head teacher, explain your needs and quite often they would put you in touch with students they think would be reliable and responsible enough, of course it would be up to you to interview them and make the final decision but its a good place to start looking if you dont know anyone.

go to babysitters.com and enter in your zip code. It's free, really easy to use and safe. I've recommended it to a bunch of people and all of them have to given me positive feed back about it. I would also ask around, see if anybody has any suggestions or put up flyers. Check with the child development/care teacher in the high school of your town if they have one. They always gave me names of kids.
Best wishes and good luck!

Contact the school. Sometimes they keep a list of local babysitters. The ones on their list usually have been cpr certified and first aid trained.
