I had to find something to discipline the kids in my household.
An old gentleman down the street suggested i needed to get me a "Cattle Prod" and just give the kids a good jolt from it everytime they even looked like they were going to act up.

At first i thought this old dude was crazy. But, after dealing with unruly teenagers, i figured i'd give it a try. Went and bought one, have used it a couple of times each on all 8 kids age 8-17.

It apparently works, because my kids have never got out of line one time since. The wife has quit her nagging too. My concern is, could their be longterm side effects from using this on a person.

Like pets. I don't care if the dog licks my face off, I don't trust any kind of animal around or alone with my children. What about you? My husband thinks it's okay. People have dead children that way.

questions concerning parenting? I don't mean the ones who have serious, thought out answers but the ones where they state "not like I'd really know, I don't have kids."

My daughter has torticollis and it's a musclar defect, it's called wry neck. She has had it since she was in the womb, but we finally noticed it 5 months and she didn't get help until 6 months, because they were highly booked. She is now going to be 10 months old. She still has it. I have been doing exercises everyday and she still has it. I got the intern working with my daughter, and I don't think it's helping. What should I do without surgery? Should I try to get another physical therapist?

Me actually spanking my kids because they act up? For any of you who want to say I am a bad parent for doing this, then may I have you save your comments and in return I think you are bad parents for not doing it. I hope your stupid time outs work when your kids grow up and get into trouble with the law!!!

I am 38y.o. Going on 10 yrs in 2nd marraige, very very happy. My husband is 45 yr with 2 kids ages 22 & 20. They both live on their own. My first husband could not have children due to childhood illnesses, low sperm count etc. We tried a short time then, accepted it. Then when I got involved with my current husband we had a long talk during our dating period and he expressed that he was pretty much done having kids, but he loved me and would have more if I wanted to. I actually am REALLY REALLY OK with not having children. My family is also fine with it. BUT... Several friends and co-workers act like it is a crime for a woman not to have children! They chastise me and go on and on about how "it's not natural to not want children" In my opinion I just think it was not meant to be. I love my life with just my hubby and me. Plus I have several nieces and nephews whom I love very much. And my step-kids are great I love them also!!

I lock my door with a car alarm, and I have a passive alarm also, that you can only start up the car using the key, even if you try to wire it. I run into the 7-11 to pay for gas or buy milk! I have a 9 month old who can't walk, and a wandered for a son, and he likes to run fast. I leave them in the car for their safety. My husband almost got kidnapped in Florida back then when he was with his dad at 7-11! I don't think it's wrong to leave two children in the car, but one I think people can manage. I always bring my children in Food Lion, the bank, the mall, and everywhere other than 7-11, or the movie place to drop off videos. I don't think it's wrong to leave them for a moment in a safe car locked with an alarm.

I have an aquaintence who is the wife of one of my husbands good friends... who I keep in contact with via email. I have a son who is 7 months older than hers. Everytime she emails me she mentions how lucky she is to have other friends with sons just a little older than hers. And how she has received a lot of hand-me-downs from them and hasn't had to buy much for her son. In her last email she said again "Love those hand-me-downs!!" And I get the point that she's probably hinting that she'd love hand-me-downs from my son. But my hubby and I are planning on saving our baby stuff in case we decide to have another. Should I just ignore her continual 'hints'? I am starting to wonder if she's only keeping in contact for the potential hand-me-downs. What do you think?

Hello, I just received emergency guardianship of 3 kids from my sister in law. They were in a very bad situation w/ their mother's drug use. I took the two youngest to the doctor yesterday. The doctor was very concerned w/ the 3 year old's weight. He is in the bottom 5% for children his age. He is Three years old and only weighs 29lbs. Please don't lecture me on what a bad parent I am. I AM NOT THEIR MOTHER. We just got them 3 weeks ago and are trying to make their life’s better. He eats well, loves veggies, but will fill himself up on veggies and fruit and not want to eat his main course. Anyone have suggestions on how to help him gain weight? They also found that he is very anemic. He should be a #9 and is only a #2. They are doing further blood work on that Monday, so they can treat his iron deficiency.

I live in Michigan and I just heard a story on the news about a lady's car being jacked while her 2 year old sat in the back seat. The mother of the child was standing only a couple of feet away when the man jumped in and stole her car.
A friend and I got into a debate about her leaving her child in the car. I told it that it isn't safe no matter how short of a time you plan on spending in the store. Do you leave your child in the car?

My girlfriend is a single mother by choice who went through IVF through a sperm bank. She also had unprotected sex around the same time. Her gorgeous daughter has some characteristics of the "fling" not the donor. She has submitted a DNA test. Her daughter is almost two and my friend has stayed in touch with the fling. If he is really the father, does she have an obligation to tell him? She does not want to be in a relationship with this man and is perfectly fine raising her daughter on her own.

p.s. we live in the Bay Area, where all of this is not so unusual.

Here is my problem that I am having my daughter just turned 4 in December and she still wears diapers(please read the entire question before you judge) She is a special needs child is a little slower than most kids her age and she goes to a special school. She knows when she has pooped in her diaper she will ask me to change her and she will ask to be changed when she feels that her diaper is to wet. She has also been diagnosed with a anxiety disorder. I am just wondering if anyone else has a special needs child and how they over came the potty training dielma that I am in. I am really getting tired of changing diapers because with her in diapers I am changing 4 kids with diapers everyday three of the kids are mine and one of the babies is my neice so if I could take care of one in diapers that would be nice so I am open to any advice please help and thank you for reading my question. I appreicate everyones advice.

He was suspended from school, again. This time he was mad and yelled in class that he was going to kill the MF that stole his pencil. This is the last chance school. He is 17 and will be 18 on 3 months. He is already grounded till Jan 20th for being late. Grounded means no computer, tv, phone, company, leaving, electronic games. What more can I do to help him see he HAS to grow up and behave? The only thing I can think of is to give him kitchen duty, cooking, and cleaning, till he is no longer suspended. He HATES kitchen duty. Please help with any ideas. He does admit what he did was wrong but he can't seem to stop himself!

My 4 1/2 year old son is in junior kindergarten, half days mornings. He is almost always the last one ready to go from the class. He just messes around and distracts the other students. I have a short lunch and don't have time for that. I've tried rewards eg he can play for a few minutes if he is out sooner, but he doesn't seem to care. There isn't much else that I can focus on as he goes straight to the babysitters from school.

He is also talking back, being rude and throwing tantrums. Time outs and taking toys away aren't helping. He seems to have gotten overly sensitive to how we talk to him and assumes that we are being rude, yelling etc when we definitely aren't. He also says we are hurting him when we aren't (eg if he isn't sitting still to be buckled in his seat, he will say that I am hurting him). It's like he doesn't understand what he is doing is causing the problem. I am 27 weeks pregnant and I am having such a hard time dealing with this. My husband is helping as well.

After my husband locked him in the closet he told me (the kid) that he has been getting the same treatment since he was seven. I didn't believe him, cussed him out and told my husband... then realized it was true and divorced my husband, pressing charges. The only problem is, my son ran away, and all the police are willnig to do is file a police report because he's 17. I've called all his favorite places and done just about everything I can. I've even gone neighberhood searching. Where should I START?

My husband locked him in the closet. I've searched everyhwere for him and have filed a police report but they arent taking me very seriously.

I question my ability to parent too
