No, you can't ever trust an animal. I am an animal lover too, but you can't trust them alone with your children.

Depends.
My parents have a two year old golden retriever. He weighs 85 lbs, and is as gentle with our 17 month old daughter as anyone else would be. He loves seeing her, and licks her in the face all the time. Twice she has fallen asleep laying on him while watching television, and he just lays there and lets her do whatever to him without so much as a growl. And this is from a dog that has never been raised around small kids - when my parents got him, my sister and I were both out of the house and living with our own families, and my sister's kids were both over 8. Their other dog, a bischon friese (spelling), also loves her, and plays with her all the time. Neither of them have ever indicated that they would do anything to hurt her.
I am a firm believer that each dog will react according to how they are raised. If they are taught to be a part of the family, and are not tied up outside or pushed away with cause to be jealous of a child, then they will be very good. But you should watch pets around children, for pets will react to how the kids treat them. And children have to learn how to be nice to the animals as well. With supervision, I don't think there would be harm brought to your children. But you need to assess the animal first. I think your fear is a valid one, but I also agree with your husband. Just be cautious and supervise them very carefully.

People have dead children by leaving them in cars too you know.
I trust many animals more then I trust some people. All animals are different, you can't generalize that all animals will harm a child. Sometimes you have to be more careful about the child hurting the animal. I have a few dogs that have been with me since me kids were very small. If I thought there would be any danger, of course I would not leave them alone.

I would never leave my kids alone with an animal! My cousin, who was 3, got his face nearly chewed off by the family dog. ( the dog had no prior violent record). This little boy had to have so many surgerys that I Iost count! He now has a fear of dogs and told me that if he ever had a dog again that he would have its teeth removed! Is that sad?! So let your husband read my story...I hope this helps save other kids!!!

At first ...like with a newborn, its not a good idea to leave dog and baby alone in a room together....even if you know the dog and you love the dog...its a dog...just bring the dog into any room YOU are in. After baby is older and you can see the dog's reaction i think its perfectly safe.

whilst i don't agree one hundred% including your determination, i will comprehend it. the yank Pit Bull Terrier is taken into consideration one of those canines that i'm pondering getting for my little ones, and that i've got had kinfolk threaten to call baby Welfare amenities if I ever have been given the form of canine. relatives is greater substantial and the right doggy in the international heavily isn't well worth the everlasting alienation of kinfolk. With that mentioned, an English Bulldog may be a sturdy canine to get. they are baby friendly, sufficiently small they gained't knock issues over, and are lazy adequate to stay on your double huge. merely observe that they have got a tendency to have particularly some well-being issues. in the adventure that your mom merchandise on your next canine, it's time to come again to a determination precisely who runs your lifestyles and makes the ideas concerning your loved ones.

I guess I don't really understand what you mean by leaving them around a dog or other animal.
Do you mean leaving then completely alone, like leaving the house or just in another room?
I have a cat, who is declawed, and I have never questioned if I should leave my daughter in a room with her. I have 4 Siberian Huskies, and I don't leave my daughter alone around them, just because they are so much bigger than her and very hyper, so I don't want them to jump on her.

I let my son play with our dog all the time-when i walk out of the room, or im doing laundry-he can climb all over her and she wouldn't do a thing-I've rasied the dog myself since i was 14 and she's slept in my bed with my everynight-she's a chocolate lab and if someone ever broke into my house-she'd like them to death, before she would ever snap at them. It really depends on the dog, how they were raised, and if it's a controlled situation or not.

No I would not!!! When my 4 yr old was 1, I was sitting with him petting our dog. Out of absolutely no where, the dog barked and bit his arm! My son was being nice and wasn't pulling on him at all! He didn't break the skin thank god, but it was very scary. It turned out that the dog had a toy that he was sitting on and I didn't know it. :( THe dog got a new home.

it depends on the animal. my dog sandy- not unless I was near by, like the next room with the door open.
my dog Sasha, I'd be fine. My boyfriend's mother's dog, I'd be fine. his sister's cat, no. my aunt's dog Cheanne, never. My cousins dogs, yes.
with some of the pets I said yes to, I trust them more than I trust other humans with my kids
it really depends

God no i saw a story on the news about how a woman let her one year old child sit near her long time pet dog and it attacked the baby. Animals can get quite jealous of kids and can attack a child without being provoked if they feel they are being replaced
