I always started about 1 month before their birthday. Decide what the theme will be and get the invitations and decorations all lined up and give about 2 weeks notice to the guests who you will be inviting. Don't wait until the last minute on decorations because if your luck is like mine I can never find what I'm looking for when I go the first time.

It will all depend on the size and duration of the party?

My son will be 3 next week. We are having a little party (afternoon tea) at home. There will be 4 friends (and 8 parents) which I think is quite sufficient as he is still very young and could quite possibly be a little too overwhelmed with more guests, Not to mention being winter, therefore having the possibility it could rain!. We planned his birthday right at the start of December, only because it is hubbys birthday on the 2nd week of December which in turn is followed by Christmas and New Years

You could start now by drawing up lists. How many children do you want to invite? Its possible your daughter may have made more friends by then especially, if she goes to a play group. You could organize a"Teddy Bears Picnic".That would be fun for the kids, mums and dads. You could perhaps include feeding the swans and ducks, if there is a pond or lake in the park. All the best things in life are free!Food should be kept simple ,small pieces of fruit ,sandwiches, cartons of drink, small yogurts, etc.Perhaps people wouldnt mind contributing in some way either with food or help ,this is why its best to plan early so your helpers can arrange their calenders.Good Luck Lindsay.

I don't remember my first birthday, not my second, I can't remember any birthday before about my fifth. until then, I would just have a cake and take a few pictures. I could be wrong about this, but until about 5 I don't think anyone has a solid memory.

So plan about a month in advance, and parade your baby among your family, because it still about you until he/she is four or five.

I know it bothers my mom, because she had big parties every year until I turned 15, but I can't remember the really cool one when I was four, I remember little parts, but not the whole thing and it really was not that important to me that I got a big party.

I just wanted to get this out so you don't spend a bunch of money for no reason.

Well there's only four months to go - I'm a planner so I usually start planning as soon as possible. My sons birthday isn't until July and then my daughters follows in August and I'm already planning theirs lol

First see if you can reserve the tables/pavillion in the park so no other party can claim it.
The larger the party, the earlier you want to plan it.
We always plan three months before so we can buy a little at the time and get the food and cake within days of the party. (Not so much a shock if you do it little by little)

You should start planning your birthday when you have enough saved up funds to pay for you birthday three times over.
