My niece is staying with me (or should i say im staying with her) and I have seen the homework stress before but now Im just plain concerned. She hasn't been able to hang out with friends once this year, every holiday the family plans on traveling and she cant go because projects are assigned for everyone (and they teachers wont give them the work before hand so she cant do it earlier) and i hate having to leave her home for sometimes a week (shes only 13! but she needs to go to the library and she needs her computer). This weekend she had to outline 2 chapters in history (5 hours each), chapter 10 & 11 vocabulary (40-50 each ch.), begin a 10 page essay, in science build a volcano and write a paper on it, in math do 70 problems (and theyre algerbra and hard-6 hours in fact beacause the teacher makes her write out everything and for fun graph every problem) and she has to study for a health and history test tomorrow and about 2 hours more in some stupid busywork!

How might i include my kids in the adult areas of the home without letting these social spaces become a play room. Should the living room be play free? Where do you draw the line and how much do you take your kids into account when decorating your home? I am redesigning my house and have many things i need to consider. If you have any personal experence and wouldn't mind sharing it i would be greatful. Thank you -w

in my house, AND they went past where they are allowed to go. I tore into them, and spanked them both, AND I told them we were not going to go to Seaworld, as planned. But now I am feeling guilty, as we have been going through a REALLY hard time here at home, and their dad is gone, and we are moving in about 2 weeks,
and their life has pretty much been turned upside down in the last month. Should I give in and take them, or stick with it?

She is only 10 months old - but she keeps getting close to the TV - I've tried everything to keep her back from it & she just gets closer -LOL - I even moved my Coffee Table up to the TV and she has learned to climb up on the coffee table & sit close to the TV !!! She actually shouldn't be able to do that but she can - LOL
I've heard that sitting to close & harm your eyes - but then I've heard that -that is not true - My Eye Dr. even said its just a wives tale - So what do you think ?
Most of the time I leave the TV off - but when its on she is right there next to it - any suggestions -
No sarcasim or insults please
If you dont have anything nice to say - dont say it

I was born in 1987 and lived in Indonesia for the first 17+ yrs of my life. I am now 19 & have been in usa for 1 yr.

In my grade level in Indonesia, out of 120 students, 3 were left-handed and I remember the PE teacher saying 3 left-handers out of 120 is more than average. I knew one of the left-handers quite well and she told me her mum used to hit her left hand with a ruler but she never became right-handed. Out of about a hundred ppl I knew from my school in Indonesia, she was the only left-hander.

I came to usa last year and have made quite a lot of friends since then. I notice about 15% of my friends are left-handed, most of them being caucasian girls. Out of about 10 of those I asked whether their parents tried to switch them, only 1 said yes. I was really shocked that american parents let their kids be left-handed. I have always thought left-handed is a bad habit like thumb-sucking that parents have to try to refrain their kids from doing.

I guess I am backward?

I am 30 married with a 2 year old daughter. I have three nieces on my husbands side 19 not married 2 kids, 21 not married 3 kids, and one that is 25 MARRIED with 2 kids. The one that is married and a little older has a much better life. The two that are NOT married are on every goverment handout you can think of. The 19year old was not sure of the father of the first kid and the 21 year old's boyfriend is serving a year in jail. I don't understand why people do this to their children. With all the choices in birth control how can you not plan better than this? I know there are divorced moms and widows that gave it their all for their marriages and families, but what I don't understand are the single girls that just continue to have babies, get handouts, don't take good care of their kids, and think that this is ok. Does anyone agree?

I mean like if a 3 year old goes to the bath room and a 4 year old is just starting why do people make a big deal about it? What i want to say is why do people want to make such a big deal about their children doing ordinary every day things that all other children can do. If a child does something it's a big deal, if they don't its a big deal. Parents just need to chill out there kids are just like everyone elses they aren't doing anything a half way smart person does everyday. So why the big deal?

My friend is going through a divorce. Custody was granted to her ex husband because she didnt have transportation or a home (and her inlaws had money). Well, she is now working at a restaraunt her ex inlaws frequent and they brought her little girl in tonight. her little girl (3 yrs old) told her that her granny and grampy said 'mommy was a bad person' and thats why she lives with her daddy. how do should she respond to that when they are obviously turning her child against her?

examples:
20 year old man shoots up a liquor store: the parents didn't raise him not to be violent

17 year old girl gets pregnant; It's all her parents' fault

40 year old man rapes 12 women: his parents didn't teach him to respect women

When does this end? After the parents are dead is it still their fault? I was pregnant 4 months before my 18th birthday; is that my parents' fault? Even though I was no longer living at home are my parents to blame? Is there ever an age where kids know right from wrong and are blamed for their OWN wrongdoing?

Getting pregnant by an illegal alien who is married to someone else and having a baby out of wedlock when he is not even around, or smoking a joint? I'm the one who smoked a joint by the way, and I've always been considered the bad guy by my stepmother, this other girl's mother. I think my stepmother has been abusive to me for many years because I smoked a joint. Big deal, I tried drugs, didn't like them and quit many years ago. I thought I was normal like many people. My stepmother is a bigot and doesn't think so. She came from an alcoholic family when she remarried my father and is always pointing the finger because I smoked a joint. But her daughter is perfect. I think my stepmother is mean. Her son smoked weed and it was fine for him to smoke weed! She's a bigot.

I was three months pregnant I think when the guy who said he was going to marry me left me for a woman that has loads of money. I met this gynocologist and he has helped me loads. After he performed my c-section, things started changing and he asked me to look for another doctor cause he wants to date me. We have talked a lot. He became my friend and he really helped me when I needed to be helped. He loves my baby. He hasn't being disrespectful at all. He's not a creeper. He says he really likes me and I really like him. I think he's the best. He's a lot older than I am but I don't think that matters, but the most important thing for me it's my baby, I want everything for him and I just want to do what it is right for my child and I. Do you think it would be all right to date him?
