He is an honor roll student, he excels at sports, he gets notes home that he is helpful and considerate of others. The thing is that when he is home he is short tempered, yells, hits and is selfish and disrespectful. He says hateful things to hurt others feelings, and tells us all the time that his Nana and Papa take better care of him than we do. We have given him more than any child needs materially and I am sure that this has added to the problem, however the things that he has have been rewards for things like his grades or birthday and Christmas gifts. We give give him love, support and encouragement. We are in no way selfish and try to teach all our kids how important it is to be a servant to others, and to be an example. We are simply dumfounded at how he has become this kid we do not recognize anymore.

I am working on a paper in school, and I was wondering if you consider spanking child abuse.

I'm just taking a poll. Who is more spoiled, your first child or your second. (feel free to tell me why).

It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't live with my mother-n-law (my daughters grandma) and live 10 minutes away from my mother. They keep pushing me about giving my baby solids & juice. Then they sit there and ask eachother about it like I'm not even in the room. Then my mother-n-law calls her mother & tells her. They are the old country folk so they were feeding their babies grits & bacon & collard greens by 3 months. This is annoying the hell out of me. Just because the baby cries they assume it's because she wants some of their food. I get really annoyed when they talk about what I'm doing/not doing with my child just because they did it with theirs & their mothers did it with them. How can I tell them to back off & that I am the mommy. They had their chance when they had theirs. Now it's my turn to experience motherhood. Has anyone had similar experiences?

I have four kids and try to make sure they have appx 20 a piece. One is a major gift and the others support it or are other things that are under $20. Some are real inexpensive from $1 store and such. Ages 5,6,12,14. Too much?

GOing through the terrible 2's with my daughter at the moment and feel like I am always saying 'No - don't - stop it'!! Am firm and try to be consistent but also end up with that nothing compares to it sense of parent guilt..

Anyone else feel this? Know she needs to be disciplined and so know it is a necessary exercise.. just that niggle that accompanies it along the 'was I too picky/harsh' lines that bothers me!

My drug addiction is my problem and need to kick the habit. I know stealing is wrong but she stopped working and now recieves child support and doesnt give me my share. Should i sue her?

OK, first of all, my mother was never there for me when I was young, my father raised me and my brother. Anyway, my daughter is 4 years old and I love her with all my heart. I only want the best for her. And the only place I trust to leave her is at daycare while I work. Other than that, she's with me, at home. I am totally freaking out if she's anywhere else than with me or at daycare, and I don't feel like she's safe. My mother lives 2 hours away and she's always pressuring me to let my daughter spend nights with her. (By the way, she's also an alcoholic) So am I being overprotective or just being a good loving mother??

My Husband and I have just had our first child and are now looking for a good place to relocate. So, I'm wondering where would be a good place to raise, educate, and entertain my growing family that is also very safe. Basically what I believe every mother looks for when they start their family, I know some of you have found it!! Looking for your advice, Andrea.

Im not talking about abusing them i mean swatting thier butts. I dont know about the rest of you but im 29 and when and where i grew up that was the status quo. We had violent movies i.e Rambo, Friday the 13th and so on and most of us didnt turn into violent sociopaths because we were spanked. In fact i think younger people have lost all touch with reality when in it comes to right and wrong.

my son put a knife to my back tonight and threatened to stab me...i dont know how much more i can take...he was diagnosed bipolar two years ago and it just keeps getting worse...and for all the self righteousl ones who might answer with well have you tried this or have you tried that...well duh, yes i have tried everything that i am capable of trying...i would not even be considering this horrible prospect if i hadnt...he has been in and out of the hospital, intensive weekly counseling, medications, NOTHING works....we have no doors left in our apartment because he has smashed them all in...along with holes in every wall and kitchen cupboards ripped off...to answer other common questions...cant afford to send him to bootcamp i dont receive child support, can barely afford to pay the bills...dont have any family to help either so if any one has some non self righteous suggestions i would appreciate the help
