because teenagers hang around with wrong crowds like a crowd that does drugs or abuse alcohol or has sex, thats the wrong crowd. and teenagers like that dont care about their grades they just care if they get stoned or drunk or have sex. and half of it is pressure they get from school, parents, maybe jobs.

I believe, and evidence shows.. "kids do well, when the can" All behavior has a purpose, a function. Maybe the child has a learning disability and it is undetected, maybe a certain behavior is getting them something they prefer, maybe the technique used by the teacher just isn't getting in that way. Humans all have different learning styles, we need info presented "our" way to be successful. We need to identify the strengths and identify the weaknesses to know if there is a problem.

On the clowns.... all behavior gets us something.... if a kid can't get positive social interaction without being a clown, they will find a way to fill that need. A need we all have, to be social. And if we can't get the positive interaction, negative interaction is still interaction, so it the negative behavior still gets us something. THey may not like it, but it may be all they know.

I think kids aren't doing well in school for a lot of reasons. First- school has now become a popularity contest instead of a place to learn. The students know that they don't have to listen because the worse thing that will happen to them is having to go home- what a punishment! Another reason is because parents these days don't put an emphasis on education. They also don't help their child with homework or even take an interest in the child's schooling. I could go on and on- but like I said- there are a lot of reasons!

There are so many different reasons why kids don't do well in school. Some children are just not suited to the way things are taught and would benefit from a more practical way of teaching. Some kids have emotional reasons - family problems, friend problems, fears of failing and many more. Other kids I guess just aren't that smart. Doing well in school will give a child a good start to their adulthood, however it is not the be all and end all, many people are very successful when they did not do well at school.

my son (who has a measured IQ of 135 which puts him in the category of having a higher IQ than 98% of the world) was actually believe it or not, put in LD and BD classes because he was so bored in elem middle and high schools, so he became a cut up and sort of surly and didn't do any work,, and LOL they didn't think he REALLY had an IQ of 135 they thought "he cheated" yes they actually had the nerve to say this to me ABOUT AN IQ TEST LOL NOW who's REALLY stupid teachers? (he attended city schools and he went to suburban schools they all sucked ) what he ALWAYS had even as a child was COMMON SENSE. today he is doing really really well in college because he is stimulated and has professors who can recognize his intelligence, and thank Jah he listened to me and stayed in school (it was a big struggle but I hung in and did NOT let him down by allowing him to give up and quit school, IMHO a parent giving in is usually a parent giving up) I promised him it would get better in college and it has oh and plus he can freestyle rap his a z z off

All teenage/kids are different.. my nephew acted up because he couldn't see the blackboard and it was easier for him to be silly then it was to say he couldn't see. Also sometimes it is easier to be the clown then be the intellectual one at school.... thats where it is up to the parents to set the foundation of what is achievable and to help them where we can when it comes to their strengths and weaknesses.

i think that there more intrested in having friends then paying attention in school. Some times i think that they do it on purpose. If the clown gets paid good then im sure he likes it.

that is a pretty deep question, but I'll try to answer, but i don't believe any one truly knows. my belief is that a desire for learning is adopted from your parents. if they teach their children early that learning is not only important, but fun as well, and re-enforce to their child how important their education is to them, by actively getting involved in their school, the student will know by actions, not words, that their parents really do care about it.
