I think a traditional diamond ring is in order..My daughter is 9 and when she is 16, I want my husband to buy her a (kinda like) promise ring. Ya know promise not to engage in unhealthy behavior..or except a ring from a boy until she is older..You can make is stand for anything..but when you give it to her make sure she understands the meaning of it!!

Lucky girl. I got a blue topaz when I turned 16, and it was still my first piece of "real" jewelry.
I would say a modest pair of diamond stud earrings. If I could have had diamond jewelry at 16, I would have asked for earrings.
My first diamond was my engagement ring, and it got lifted from our temp quarters 3 1/2 years ago when we moved.

Something nice & simple. Steer clear of fad jewlery that might go out of style in a few years. This is something you will want her to cherish and be able to wear forever. Maybe some small earrings or a nice pendant or bracelet. A birthstone ring with a diamond included would be very nice.

Well at 16 a diamond is a bit much, put if you insist then a small pair of earrings. You don't want something that sticks out as someone may take it from her.

buy her something that isnt like "wow" but it is simple... she might be irresponsible and lose it, so start off small... i would say a necklace... i always lost my jewelry::rings and earrings:: but i have never lost my necklace... its a small 3 diamond pendant on a light 16in chain... its classy and not tacky... u should get her good quality, and keep it simple.. something that wont fade with the fad, something that she can wear later on in life and not feel as though she looks tacky

anything simple would do as she can wear them for some years at least.don't consider the carats or the price let your daughter choose for herself, this would make both of u happy.there are certain first time things we all have done n these are sure memories.have fun happy shopping.bye

I purchased a diamond chip for my daughter set as the "face" of a daisy. Can be worn when dressed up or with jeans and tee shirts.

Oh, she would love anything from Tiffany's. Princess cut and heart shaped diamonds are my favorite. I would get her a necklace or a ring.

I vote for the ring too. Anything on a chain could be lost.
A ring is something she will have for many years to come.
I still have rings I received years ago.
Give her a "happy birthday" from me and may God be with you both.
