thats odd that the eye doc said its ok. Dont you just want to throttle docs when they say things like that...especially in front of the child that you are trying to get to change habits!!
It might cause a little drama in the begining but if she sits to close, use the remote to turn it off saying that it was the "alarm". lol, my friend used this technique & it worked wonders.
The child doesnt know it is you & thinks as soon as they get to close it switches off automatically so they have to move back for it to go back on. Only down side is that you have to keep on top of it & try not to slip once lol, they might be little but they sure aint silly!!

As per most opthamologists its not harmful at all.It used to be before the 60s due the excessive radiation but nearly all of the modern tvs there is no problem like that. A lot of people believe that some eye problems, notably myopia (nearsightedness), is due to overuse, close work, inadequate light, and so on.It is all about not overdoing it.As long as you control the amount of time your daughter watches tv she should hopefully be fine.

Sitting close to the TV (or computer screen) can cause eye strain (which is temporary) and even headaches, but you do not need to worry about permanent damage.
Don't listen to anyone who says anything different. They don't know what they're talking about.
Anyway, your eye doctor gave you your answer. Why are you asking laymen? Just because you don't like the answer that the doctor gave you, that doesn't make it untrue.

I have also read that it won't harm her eyes. I think she'll grow out of it being only 10 months old. Just pull her back and sit her down about 2-3 metres away.

I would have her eyes checked by a opthamologist. Peditricians are not eye surgeons and don't give "comprehensive" eye exams to children. I found out my daughter was extremely far sighted just after she turned a year old, her peditrician didn't think there was anything wrong but to "rest my fears" as he said he gave me a referral to a pediatric opthamologist. Two weeks later my daughter was in glasses.

I would not allow her to get very close to the tv despite what the doc says. According to doctors what is bad for you turns out good for you and what is good turns out bad so really, as educated as doctors are they are wronge about things too. In fact more often than people think.Use your own judgement, you obviously think it is not good and you should trust you own instincts. The less she watches tv the better anyway.

I also have heard that is nothing more than the un-true story that keeps going around, aka an old wives tale.

i knew a girl and when she was a baby she was extreamly close to the tv and she always said she couldnt see it but the opticians always said her eyes were fine but it turned out her eyes were not fine and she was going blind and because her mum stopped her from sitting close to the tv it did more harm than good.

Yes. Excessive computer use is as well. She'll become short sighted or astimatic.
I'd say move her away for the TV or tell her to until she gets used to it.
