I have a nanny/housekeeper who works in my home approximately 20 hours a week. She's been doing things that irritate me, but today she did something that was just plain odd.

She and my five-year-old were playing and my daughter accidentally called the nanny by the dog's name (names are very similar phonetically). The nanny started pretending she was a dog and actually licked my daughter's face two or three times.

I know how ridiculous this sounds. I assure you I'm not making this up or trying to be a smartass. That is exactly how it happened.

My husband found out and he wants to fire the nanny. He said that behavior is unacceptable and he doesn't want someone like that in our home.

I think it is definitely odd behavior and that we should address it with the nanny, but I think flat out firing her without any notice/warning is a bit harsh.

What would you do? Fire the nanny or discuss your concerns with her?

My mom says she does not want me to have anymore contact with him and no letters to prison either while i live under her roof!Is this unfair?

When ever I tell my 3 year old son not to do something, my partner will often challenge me infront of my son. I have spoke to him about this but it only seems to make matters worst. It has reached the point now where I feel that I should not say anything. I expecting a baby in the next 3 weeks and feel that if I am having problems (being undermind and not backed up) with one child- it will be even worst with another. I am beginning to feel that my son hates me as I am seen as the 'kill joy'.

I know this girl who used to be a really good friend of mine but recently I have lost almost all respect for her. My problem is the way she is raising her kids. I don't like to judge but when it comes to neglect I can't put up with it. Recently her husband was deported to mexico and the two of them have 3 kids. He was a very poor excuse for a husband and I actually witnessed him beating her infront of the kids. Now that he's gone, she has completely forgotten the kids. She leaves them with her sister every day and most nights. She refuses to work and any money she gets she sends straight to him. Her sister is being forced to pay for the childrens food and even the rent. Her sister is extremely upset by this but fears what the family will do if she trys anything. Should I report her to srs? Her kids have been stripped from her before for neglect and now she's doing it all over again.

Does anyone know of any great parenting books that show different techniques to parenting? Including them all (spanking vs. not spanking, letting them cry out vs. not letting them cry out) without making another technique bad--or not able to be used and is strictly factual. Something that also shows how this effects a child's behavior in later life.

I have the "What to Expect..." series and would like something else. I'm not much for parenting guides but I'm doing a big research project/speech for school--that counts for a big part of my grade. While I have my own views on parenting I would like my speech and project to not be biased because I am a parent and of course I feel I am doing what is "right" for my children.

Feel free to leave any comments on what you as a parent with grown children or what you as an adult experienced while growing up that had a positive/negative effect on you as an adult. I may use responses in my speech for reference.

Thank you!

Today on the "Maury" show, the show was titled "I'm in 9th grade and I'll do anything to get pregnant". The guests of the show were a bunch of 13/14 yr. old girls who want to become mothers now--even though they are only 13 and 14.

The girls all had their mothers there. The mothers were nice, mature, and normal women. You could tell they actually cared about their children because they would show pictures of the girls when they were younger, they would talk about how they used to have straight A's in school, etc.

Now, these girls are dressed in mini skirts and pratically using their bras as shirts. They admitted to having sex with tens or even hundreds of men and now were doing everything in their power to get pregnant.

My question is: Who's fault is it that they are like that? I mean, is it still the parents fault? The mothers all seemed like they cared and wanted "their little girls" back. Who's fault is it? Is it the parents' fault, or do some girls just end up like this?

Hi!
I am 33 years old with a 3 year old boy, Jason and another son, Cody on the way in Jan. I have people say that I am a "bad" mom becuase my son has never been away from us. We do not have any family in the town we live in. Our nearest family we have is 4 1/2 hours away. He only sees my parents 4-6 times a year and maybe 1-2 times a year for my husband's parents who live almost 11 hours away. As far as my husband's family is concerned, I don't trust my inlaws at all. My Mom-in-law left my son in his stroller by him self when he was 6 weeks old alone in his stroller. So I don't allow her to be by her self with any of my kids what so ever. I don't care how old they are.
We don't have any friends that have kids his age. And we don't know a soul who could babysit. So, we just take him with us where ever we go. I have tried to put him in my Gym's daycare. But, he freaked out so bad that I stopped going to the gym. He dosen't do well on his own.

I'm a step father to 2 children, the oldest is 16 (I've helped raise her since she was 9) and for the last 3 years she's gone overboard lazy about school. Her report cards went from A's and B's in elementary to mostly C-'s, D's and F's. She's now a sophomore in High School but is off to another bad start. I've tried talking to her, taking away freedoms, offering incentives ($25 an A, $15 for B, $0 for C, D's and F's she owes equivalent of A and B) but nothing is working.

Part of the situation is that I work far from home and am only there on the weekends. Not much time to help with homework but I'm in constant communication with my wife. I'm hoping there might be some suggestions out there that might get through to her that she's really throwing away her future now by not applying herself in school.

If your child gets in trouble at school do they get in trouble at home as well....

Last week my daughter got introuble for pushing another boy..I had her right a apology letter to the boy and the teacher....I believe teachers do not get as much respect as they use to.......I feel it is my job to make sure my daughter understands that she must respect rules at home and at school....

What do u think about the school issues of teachers and respect?
