Ok I'm a ninth grader and my parents never helped me with homework in 7th grade and I did ok but there were still a few things I didn' understand so I'd say help them if they need it if they ask don't blow them off If you know they have a problem with a subject be sure to help them (mine was math and the very next year i was in a math help class) if they're amazing students and have no problems be sure to look over they're shoulder and make sure they complete it and are trying to do a good job on it and aren't just trying to finish it and be sure they understand the homework too.

While a 7th grader should be taking on more responsibility they also still need guidance...
With my kids I have always had them do all portions of thier homework they can alone I check in and make sure they are still doing it... When they complete that portion they can come to me for help, I will explain concepts and help them work step by step through the difficulty but I let them accomplish all they can on thier own first...
I will not do the work for them however... My children are in 4th grade, 11th grade and 1st year college.. My youngest came to me today with the math problem ... The year is 1776, how many years will have passed when the year is 1976? I didnt tell her minus 1776 from 1976 and get the answer.. 200 years... I told her imagine to her age and her cousin Kayties age My daughter is 9 Kaytie is 5 she knows they are 4 years apart and knows the simple math of 9 - 5 =4 that's when the light in her head turns on and she could visualize how she needed to do the math for the problem... As the old saying goes "Give a man a fish and feed him for a day, teach him to fish and feed him for a lifetime." I taught her to fish...
As parents we need to make sure not to just give the correct answer but to teach out child how to get the correct answer alone when helping with homework...

I have helped all my kids all the way through school. I even read my daughters physics book to help her when I never took physics but you can learn along with them. As they get older they need less help but can always use someone to quiz them for tests!!

Be there to guide them by all means, that's if you can understand it, they have changed the maths here so much that it's done in a totally different way to how I was taught and I only confuse my daughter

Well personally hardly at all. When I was in seventh grade I never needed my mom's full help and attention. I just asked like a question every like month.

Involved - YES
Doing it for them - NO
Be careful, kids have magic, lol. Before you even know it they will have you doing there homework for them.
Just push them in the right direction.

They should do it themselves and parents only step in to help when they need it. Don't give em the answer, just give em clues. Have them do as much as they can on their own
