It depends. Daycare your children can be with other children and develope social skills, but you would really have to look in the daycares. because some arent safe enviorment. (like some of the at home daycares)
Staying at home you can watch your children and make sure there safe. And you could bond more with your children. But they could be come to attached to you, and they wont be get all the social skills they may need.
It all depends on the person. If you know a really good day care i would say that would be better. But if the mom wants to stay home and watch her kids. she could just bring them to the park more so they can get the social skills and that would be fine too.

I believe both can be ok. There is nothing wrong with putting a child in daycare you get great benefits from it. They experience social skills with other children and adults, most daycares today start teaching the child basic education. On the other hand stay at home moms can be good as well considering that they use the time with the kids wisely and don't just stick them in front of the TV while they get the house chores done. If a Stay At Home Mom can educate and give her children the social skills needed she has done a wonderful job.

I believe having a parent stay at home is the best thing these days. If you think about it, the average parent can only make like (for example) 8$ per hour. Then child care is like 3$ per hour er child. It does not leave much money left over. That is the situation I have came into. Both of us used to work full time, but now We have two kids and am pregnant again, and to pay daycare for three kids will be at least 6$ per hour. I only make 8$ per hour. There is no point for me to go to work. But every house is different. It all just depends on the family.

As a stay at home mom it is obvious which one I think. We are not rich we do not need to be, so myself staying home does not effect our money situation. Why we chose this way was WE want to be the ones to raise our children not a day care!! When you add up the time you actually spend raising your child when both parents work a regular 9-5 it is not that much. Going back to the money situation part of staying home, if you can get by good with one parent working why not wait till the kids are in school. Most kids do much better knowing one parent is home for them, if you the parent can handle it.

I have done both and I will have to say staying at home is far better.
Number one: My kids are NEVER sick.
When they were in daycare they had runny noses all the time. They were constantly sick. This was at every daycare I tried.
Number two: My kids are less bruised and bitten.
Number three: I am able to give them quality time as a mother not as an employee paid low wages while piled with 13 kids per person.
Number four: I am able to KNOW that no loud-mouth, intolerant harpie is screaming at my children.
Numbr five: I can keep my house cleaner and husband happier knowing that I am home.
Number six. I LOVE IT!
I have been a single mom, I have been a working mom. But being a stay at home mom is awesome (although, sometimes I do miss the interaction of work, but not as bad as I miss my kids when I am there.)

Why do you ask such a question if you know it is controversial and you already have your own decision made?
That said, I am a sahm. I know lots of people simply can't afford it. I am glad there are great daycares in the world for their kids. BUT I think there are a lot of people out there who really could afford it if they were willing to sacrifice new SUV's, new furniture, vacations to Hawaii, etc. YOu don't know (or maybe you do) how many times I've heard a working mom who's kids are in daycare all day every day, or after school every day, say "Oh, my job is to supply the extras--the new cars, the vacations, etc." As if those things are more important than RAISING YOUR KIDS!
anyhow, I think you should stay home if you at all can, but if you can't, I understand. I am grateful on a daily basis to God for a husband who a)makes enough money and b)agrees I should stay home with the kids.

I am a single mother- I have worked since my daughter is 6 weeks old. She has a one on one babysitter until 2 1/2 and tehn she went to day care 3 days a week, then at 3 five.
There of course things I missed but it also made our time together more precious. I think that at 3 children should go to a preschool at least two or three days even for a couple of hours to get interaction with the other children. You can tell once your child goes to kindergarten who was around other children. It is important for their social skills.
My daughter is now 11, she goes to a friends before and after school and loves every minute of it. She is a straight A student, respectful, kind, and caring. I believe that you do not need to stay home to achieve that. I am still lucky enough with my job, to have holidays, vacations, leave early for things as halloween so it worked for me.

Hi,
Specialists here (in Canada) say that it is better for the kids to stay at home. It creates a more stable environment for them. They said that in response to a trend right now, where the kids are dropped off at day care (or another place) at dawn, and picked up at dusk, when the kid is ready to go to bed.
That being said, some parents don't have a choice. Food needs to be put on the table, and the parent needs to go to work. But others do. Do you really need a second t.v.? Do you work for luxury items or for basic necessities?
I always said that giving birth is the easy part (yes I'm a man...) and it's the next 20 years that are hard. You have to be there for your kids as much as possible. A parent is supposed to be the guide for his kid, not solely a provider. The kids learn about life from what surrounds them, and personally, I would like to be there for them, and no, it is not always possible.
To qualify my answer, I am a father of 4.Note that nowhere in my answer I am assuming that it has to be the mother that stays at home. But it certainly has to be constant adult presence.

Having done both....I'd have to say staying at home has been best for my family. The first time around, for financial reasons I had to work. My son was in daycare and yes he was fine there and happy. But he was sick frequently and landed in the hospital with RSV(not just for preemies) around XMAS right before he turned 2. Then financially, after that, working became a burden on my family. I became pregnant with our second child and the times out of work, unpaid, plus having to pay a full weeks daycare tuition(even when he wasn't there a full week) set us back. We worked our numbers and learned how to cut back on the budget to make things work. I'm happy to say that over a year later of being out of work...not one cold. It's been a bonding experience to say the least. And we are also expecting a third child. We plan on my being home with the kids until they are all in school full time. We don't try to keep up with the Jones' and are happy. My relationship with my hubby has improved as well since he's a little old fashioned in believing that a mom should be home, at least for the first years of their lives.

I think a combination of both is good. I'm planning on not teaching next year to stay at home with my son who is now 4 months. I stayed at home until he was three mo. and it's breaking my heart right now b/c I feel like I should be the one at home teaching him. Daycare , however, provides wonderful sources of social development time. If you can supplement that by having playdates and making sure your child is around other kids then I say go for staying at home. Financially, daycare is CRAZY mostly everywhere. But staying at home can be just as crazy if you cannot afford it. It al depends on what the person values...time...or money
