My child is a teenager with moderate cognitive delay. (Mental Retardation) He always wants to know what is wrong I keep telling him everyone is different. It is so difficult because he looks "normal". but after talking to him you understand why he is in a special class, I am told that he will never be on his own.
He wants to be like other kids. He talks about driving, girls, working, reading, I am an educated person. I am not dealing with this and I do not know what to tell him. Especially when the word retard is sp prevelant. He even has a personal care aid at home. He rebells and says "I can do that "then he just stands there and he is not doing it.
I have looked on-line read books for many years. I need some advice. I can not put it off. HE IS JUST above the range where he is happily unaware. He is aware but ......can you please??

My little girl is almost 6 and is allowed to play outside my house as i live in a cul-de-sac with loads of other kids. She is very independent and tries to push the boundries, wanting to play around the corner as some of the other kids are allowed to. When i tell her she can't she asks me why? For fear of scaring her by going into details about kids getting taken away how do i explain why she must stay where i can see her?

I'm 22.I'm pregnant in 37th week with twins(2 girls).I'm not married and I have 3 other daughters(all of them have different fathers and I don't live with any of them) - Ranulia(5),Evlodina(3), Pavilet(2).I want all the girls to have unusual names. Now I think of names for the twins.I want names beginning with B and N,but they musc be unusual and shorter than 7 letters. And another thing - When I worked(between pregnancies) my parents took care fo the kids. When I deliver the twins and they become 1-year-old,I'll have to continue working.Ranulia will have to be at school but since there won't be nobody to take care of the babies and the young girls, she will have to stay at home to keep an eye on the others. So can I leave her at home until she is 9-10 years old(when the other girls will grow up) and then send her to school? Now my parents are unavailable to take care of the kids and we don't have a kindergarten nearby.

When we get married next year our limit on the number of guests for the day 'do' is 100 people, the first people we took off our long list were all children apart from very close family. Do you think people are going to fall out with us over this? and what is the best way to word it on the invites?

Need help my 5yr boy has started lying at school and stealing.
He got caught stealing some ones lunch and his excuse was my mum don’t make me lunch which is so not true who would send there kid to school with out lunch any so I thought it was because they had nicer lunch than him, so I made sure he had a lot a food and all yummy to eat but didn’t work he still told the teacher that I didn’t make him lunch so the teacher had to make him some. And every now and then he brings something home from school that’s not his and has no reason for having it. It thought it was attention seeking but not I give him my full attention I’m at my wits ends and its so shame when I hear from other mums that my son doesn’t get feed
How do I stop him lying and I don’t approve of beating my kids vilnes is never the way

I'm 13, have a strong resentment of my parents, especially my father. I guess I'll never get over it. It's been like that for 7 months. Whenever possible, I avoid talking to tem, avoid being around them. Of course we don't know the future, but I think when I have a job and can live on my own I'll write my father offf my life and will very rarely talk with my mom.

Where can such resentment take me? What are the possible consequences of being so resentful about my parents? Will this harass my life?

Thank you for your time

When my son gets upset, he hits. He usually just hits me or my husband. I've tried pretend crying, hitting back (he actually hits harder when we hit him), putting him in time out, flicking (all suggestions from the doctor... nothing harsh, just to get his attention). I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have really given this stepmom thing a chance, but I dont think that I can keep going on the way things are. My stepson has only lived with us for 3 months and I am already thinking that this arrangment is not going to work. His mom asked my husband and I to take custody because of his horrible behavior. They have been divorced since he was 3, he's 12. She was fed up with him and thought that coming to live with us would help things. It hasn't. He is lying, stealing, getting in trouble on the bus. I feel like I have had to change my entire lifestyle just to accomendate him. He has a horrible attitude to me and my husband both. He doen't show any remorse for his actions at all. He will apologize and then a week later he is doing the same thing again. My husband is also at his wits end. His son just seems to be determined to cause trouble. I don't feel like I should let him ruin our marriage. We have a daughter together. I think she deserves to grow up with us together. Help!

OK I have been in school for a while so finally I will start my Respiratory Therapist Program next year. I am basically a SAHM that goes to school, but now we are trying to buy a house and I need to work FT for the next year. I have worked as a CNA for the past 7 years mainly PT since my son was born 3 years ago. I am looking for some possible ideas from other working moms about jobs that fit their schedule. Day type jobs don't really work cause my whole check will go to child care. I am trying to find other positions than CNA because there is so much lifting and I am kinda burned out. So just searching for ideas! As of now I am applying for all types of stuff!

She asks him for rides everywhere, and asks him to buy her all these things she doesn't need. I am tired of hearing her cry and whine like a 2 year old and need some advice...Should I talk to him or no?

A woman has a child that is mildly mentally challenged (cannot talk and is over-active), but she is a great mom to her child. She has a girlfriend who is very cool; they hang out, talk, laugh, and just do all around girl stuff. However, when the mom with the special needs child needs a sitter, she can't count on her girlfriend to watch her kid. Is it wrong to be upset at the friend for not wanting to assist or support her when it comes to watching her kid? Why do you think the girlfriend doesn't want to watch the kid? Is she afraid that maybe she can't handle the responsibility?

My son is seven years old. I was incarserated in prison when my girlfriend found out she was pregnant. I guess while I was in prison she got arrested for possesion/distributing illegal substances. Her parents took the custody of my son, but didn't adopt him. They now want to adopt him (she is still in prison and doesn't want him) My parents paid child support to her parents while I was in prison and since I've been out I've paid child support. Her parents still want to adopt...is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening? Shouldn't I get full custody of my child? I cannot afford a lawyer and I'm not sure what I shoud do? What steps should I be taking? I think the trouble I've gotten into really makes me a "bad parent." Her parents seem to have issues with the fact that I'm Mexican?!?

I live with my bf and his 12 yo daughter. I do not have any biological kids and do not want any as I prefer to adopt as there are so many kids in the world that need loving homes. A few months ago I found two brothers on DCF's website. They are considered "special needs" children because 1) they are a sibling group and 2) they are of mixed race. I understand that because I am not married my bf will not be able to legally adopt these kids until we are married. I contacted an agency today that holds the required classes that need to be completed before you can adopt. They basically told me that I can go through the entire process but will either have a long wait for a child or never have a child placed with me because I am not married and living with a man. How is my home less stable then a single mom's home or a foster home? I am wanting to take on two children that may never be adopted and I have been told that my home is less stable than foster care? How can this be??

My daughter is 5 but only does what I want to do. When you ask her anything, from what do you want to drink to what shirt are you wearing, it's always "What does daddy want?"

It's cute, flattering, but is it getting obsessive at this age? I almost start to worry!

My husband and I want to open a special needs child care facility. When we do this we will have our LPN or higher education.

My question is how much do most people charge for special needs child care?

We define special needs as medical problems that need special care.

We aren't out to rape anyone on prices just looking for information on prices and the actual need.

I'm not talking about the occaisional slip up, most people are guilty of that, but I know some people who seem to have no reservations at all about cussing around their kids. Then people act so shocked when the kid uses that language himself. I think it's unfortunate but it's also so widespread, in entertainment, at school, and other areas. Ironically, movie producers will often put lots of swearing in their movies to attract a more 'mature' audience, as if using profanity was a trait of 'maturity'.

I am 14 years old, and I have this boyfriend who is a senior and he's usually really nice. Recently he started pressuring me to do some stuff.he try's to get me to have sex, drink, and sometimes do drugs with him.The worst is when he asks for sex. If I say I'm not in the mood, he just keeps pushing it until I cave in. He's usually really gentle with me around people but when we are alone and I dont want to do something he can get violent. Ive tried to break up with him, but whenever I do that he kisses me and tries to make me happy. Sometimes he even will try for sex right on the spot, I guess so that he can make me happy and i will forget about breaking up.but i honestly dont want to do it.other times he will hit me and say we are gonna stay together.I really do want to break up with him, but im afraid he might hurt me. sometimes he even stays the night, when my parents arent home. i try to keep him out but he finds a way to get in.I have trouble talking to my mom.(continue below)
