I'm not talking about the occaisional slip up, most people are guilty of that, but I know some people who seem to have no reservations at all about cussing around their kids. Then people act so shocked when the kid uses that language himself. I think it's unfortunate but it's also so widespread, in entertainment, at school, and other areas. Ironically, movie producers will often put lots of swearing in their movies to attract a more 'mature' audience, as if using profanity was a trait of 'maturity'.

I think that if you expect your children not to use profanity then you should lead by example and not use it yourself. Yes like you said we do slip sometimes, but you should really make it a habit to not use it around the kids. I think the parents that punish their kids for using profanity when their kids see them doing it are just hypocrits. I am not saying I am perfect because lord only knows that I have had my "slips" but I really try to make it a habit not to use profanity in my day-to-day activities so that my son and my baby on the way won't think that is okay to use it.

I used profanity around my kids when I was married to my last husband. He did, too. We fought a lot.
Now, I am divorced and happily gone from him, and I have no need or interest in cussing. Neither does he.
However, my 21 year-old son, from that marriage, cusses every other word. I tell him he sounds like a rapper.
It is embarrassing, and makes me feel disrespected. I correct him, and it is like a joke to him. I tell him, I don't feel I am being a hypocrite, because when I knew better, I did better. He says f*** and s*** and talks about sex loud and in front of anybody. I don't go anywhere with him.
I am living proof that you reap what you sow.
I tell my granddaughter that I am not old enough to watch certain movies.

I think that parents that cuss around there kids don't really care of what they are going to say when they start saying things, and they don't realize that every child's brain is like a sponge it adsorbs any word that is said, and for the swearing I don't like it, it teaches children bad things and behaviors, and parents that do that need to grow up and show there child or children a better way to be.

I am 16 and my parents have always cussed around me. Growing up, it is good to get out of the house so that I don't hear it all of the time. When I was in about 6th or 7th grade, I always thought it was cool. Now I just think it is annoying.

I don't swear around my child as I don't want her to grow up and think that it's ok to swear all the time, no matter who you talk to. I might accidentally slip up and swear, say if i drop something, or hurt myself, but she knows that this is a naughty word, and is wuite pleased to tell me off! Profanity has it's place - dramatic effect in films or in comedy - but not in the home.

It really surprised me when comedy shows just started using curse words in their episodes. I have two children and I feel like I can't watch shows anymore because you never know when they will blurt out a cuss word. Then my son would just repeat it, because he repeats everything!

It makes me really mad because I want to be able to watch adult shows and not have to worry about my children picking up bad words from them! Why would anyone want their child to say things like that? It is not a sign of maturity at all, it is a sign of being immature.

except they could pay me back for 18 twelve months of nutrition, outfits, and abode expenses, NO! To a undeniable quantity although, poking sturdy jokes at one yet another is high-quality. in the event that they're using profanity using fact i'm being unfair, i'm going to assert "lose the 'tude" and avada kedavra them immediately!

I have a couple of friends who not only use it daily around their kids, they use it at their kids. I'm appalled by it, but have only said something about it once or twice. It's not my place to try and correct them, but they know it bothers me. I think it just shows a lack of intelligence and, honestly, makes them look bad. I can't stand it when a parent uses that language, but it really bothers me when they use it in public and loudly. I don't understand if they think that this makes them look tough or what, but it's something that I will never do!!

I am highly against any parent who swears around their children I call them ignorant people because it teaches the children it is alright to talk like that and then when school comes around the children are in for a rude awaking.

My parents cussed in front of me as a child. I don't cuss now. And I don't think they did it because they didn't care about me. They cared and still do care very much about me. I think what matters and makes other children cuss is what other things go on in the house ......... a lot more than just cuss words.
