As far as teens getting tats: If it's tasteful, and not in a private place, and not their latest girlfriends name or initials, I would probably let my boys get one. Not at like 13-15, but maybe 16-17 they'd have enough of an idea of who they are to not regret whatever they got later in life. I still wouldn't just sign off on permission though, I would have to be there and approve what they picked out. As far as piercings, no private places and no major modification(lobe stretching etc) and it would be ok.
I think tats are a good way of expressing who you are. They can be used as a symbol(my husband and I have celtic knot arm bands as wedding rings, because he was an electrician when we got married and I can't stand to wear jewelry on my hands). I don't think they are for everyone. Some can't handle the pain involved. I know some still think that they are low class, but some of the classiest people I know have a small tasteful tat somewhere. I think it's a matter of personal choice.

Im a tattooed mom of 2... I have 15 tattoos and I think that no one should be tattooed under the age of 18. Too many people rush out to get tattoos instead of giving it some thought or they go to scratchers and end up with infections and crappy tattoos... Peircings I don't think are as big of a deal because most will close... Also a lot of younger people don't think about tattoo placement and how a big ol heartagram on your wrist might hamper your job search later on....

I have 4 tattoos, and they all have some form of meaning to me. The only easily visible tattoo is a cheshire cat on the back of my neck. If they're getting it "just because", and not putting any thought into it, then no, they don't need to get it done. If it has some kind of special meaning and is otherwise tasteful, I don't really see the problem. My cheshire cat is actually a reference to quantum physics, and alot of thought went into how I could put together two of my favorite things into one tidy reference. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but not everyone that gets a tattoo is an undereducated scumbag.

I got a tattoo the day I turned 18 (in loving memory of Dad), and had my belly button pierced when I was 17 (my belly was so pretty), I think... I'm a parent now, and if my son wants a tattoo and it's decent then it would just be hypocritical of me to tell him no, of course he would be 18+ when he would get it.. and I don't see anything wrong with piercings either... my husband kind of does though (except in the ear lobe).. so... Jr. will have to take it up with Daddy..

I have two tattoos myself so I do like them, however, I'm not sure that a teenager is mature enough to choose one that he or she would want to live with FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIFE. They also don't know what career path they are taking, and some professions will frown on an exposed tattoo so placement is very important. I have no problem with tattoos I think they are nice as long as they are tastefully chosen. I would not let my teenage children get one.

NO way would I allow my child, under the age of 18 to get a tattoo. If she wanted to get one after age 18, I would hope she would be mature enough to realize that it will be on her body until the day she dies and if she chooses to get one she should choose very very very carefully.
As for body piercing, I don't mind ear piercing after age 12 -- but just one hole in each ear, thank you very much. Naval piercing had become more commonplace, and I might let a teenage daughter get it done under very limited circumstances.
In my state, you have to have parental consent for any piercing (ears included) under the age of 18.

I think at 17 if they get a tribal or small decorative tattoo thats fine, the large ones, names or photos etc. they should wait longer. Piercings 16+ I have no problems with.

We are a Christian family I Taught my kid the Bible since infancy and they know that the Bible at Leviticus 19 ;28 tells us not to put tatoos on our body nor do cuttings so they never have as for those who do if they want to ruin their health and life they are the ones who will have to live with the consequences of their actions as it is possible to get AIDS form getting a tatoo and body piercings other than ears is revolting and in some circles related to occult practices Gorbalizer
