Tell her the truth..
A condom is a birth control devise used by adults to prevent having a baby when they are not ready to have one...
Just remember if she is old enough to ask a question she is old enough to get an age appropriate truthful answer..
If you are straight forward and truthful now you will build a foundation of communication that will serve you well when she is a teenager..

Just answer the question truthfully and generically by saying a condom is a kind of balloon that holds liquids.
You sure don't need to get into the birds and bees, preventing pregnancy, and that sort of thing at this point. It's always better to tell the truth, even if not the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Kids know when adults lie or evade, but if you tell part of the truth you've satisfied their curiosity without getting into the nitty-gritty details.

Uhm, answer the question. Put it in kid terms of course, but you let your kid watch Mtv, and that's what happens. If you lie to your kid now, later (a lot sooner than you think), she will know what it really is, and it'll just be another thing to tell her therapist.
MTV is pure poison for a family. Not just the sexual imagery, but the spotlighting of stupidity and the emphasis on looks over substance will ruin everything you are trying to teach your kid.

Same thing my folks told me when I asked--"It is a balloon for grown people to play with" and I was 13 at the time. I heard it at school, but I think they called it a "rubber"

Give her the most straightforward answer you can without going into details. At this age, a short, simple answer is usually all they're looking for.
