OK I have been in school for a while so finally I will start my Respiratory Therapist Program next year. I am basically a SAHM that goes to school, but now we are trying to buy a house and I need to work FT for the next year. I have worked as a CNA for the past 7 years mainly PT since my son was born 3 years ago. I am looking for some possible ideas from other working moms about jobs that fit their schedule. Day type jobs don't really work cause my whole check will go to child care. I am trying to find other positions than CNA because there is so much lifting and I am kinda burned out. So just searching for ideas! As of now I am applying for all types of stuff!

If you have clerical skills, and with your CNA certificate and knowledge of Medical Terminology you might look into hospital work on a night shift doing admissions or ward clerk (if they still call them that). Some hospitals do hire CNAs..you could work in Pediatrics as a CNA, not as much lifting or the patients are much lighter, or take in a few children and start your own child care business.

Retail is a great option because you can pick the shift times that you are available to work. You could work opposite of your husband. My husband and I have that arrangement - I work in the morning (from 7am - 3pm) and he works second shift (3pm - 11pm). It also helps that I am able to take my daughter to work when I need to (I have a great boss, and she is the owner of the business I work for - so she allows me to bring my daughter when it is needed). You might want to look into something small and privately owned as well - there is a lot of flexability with that.

I also know that the hospital that is by us has free daycare for their staff. So if you got a job at a local health care center or hospital, you might get the opportunity for free child care. I know you said you were burning out on CNA work, but the free day care might make things a little more worth it.

Your best bet would to work when your husband is home and that way all of your money can go towards the house instead of just to pay for daycare. Basically your working so that someone else can watch your child instead of saving anything. Try a grocery store or a store like Target.

You will have the best luck with retail jobs as most retailers employ several people and can work around many schedules
