my oscar (about 4 months old) 5in. does some really odd things i have never read about or even heard of. first of all when i just got him i would hand feed him flakes. now if i just drop the food in he will act like its not even there. second, he randomly will jump out of the water and hit the hood. its whenever i enter my room get out of bed or walk by it. the third thing is he buries himself in the gravel. i have no idea why he does that. the temp is at 79 water tests are 100% ok. Please help!!!!!!!

We have just purchased a 29 gallon tank. We have gotten a filter, bio balls, a heater ,and decorations and what not. We also got a water conditioner...(.just to let you all know we are at ,not starting quite from zero). We are letting our tank cycle through for 24 hours and were planning on getting a couple cheap fish tomorrow at the advice of the fish guy at the pet shop. This is all new to me so I am not sure if maybe we should wait longer. I would also like a recomendation of some hardy community fish. If anybody knows of a good web site to go to for general info that would also be great! Thanks in advance!

my fish store has helped me out a lot
im starting a 10 gallon salt tank with no corals just fish and live rock

i added 20lbs live sand and 5lbs live rock and mostly live water and some of the freshwater they gave me tohelp balance out the salt

i think my salinity is correct but im not sure

i check with my hydrometer and most of the time it reads that it is fine but some odd times it is off. are there any tips as how to use this thing?

if i put it in the water and let it slowly fill to the top it shows my salinity is fine

i fill it slow and then tapp the bubbles out and it looks okay

am i doing it right?

im waiting a week to add 2 small tank raised clown fish and 4 hermit crabs for now.'

he said i could have up to like 6 small fish but only two clowns and i need 10lbs live rock
the five i already have fill up the tank a good bit though.
thanks

My goldfish has developed red spots. There was one on his tail for about a week which I monitored, but as of yesterday he has a lot of them. They are sploches, not streaks.

Also he has one cloudy eye but I think that's his slime coat being more excessive. I bought both anti-fungal and anti-bacterial medicines, but I really cant seem to diagnose this correctly (so I havent used any medicines.) I do put a little salt in the tank (not even the recommended amount) and I use Aqua Clear and Easy Balance. help!

I just had a scare. It's 3am and we just had a powercut.

The thing is should it happen again lets say within the next 2 hours, now that I at least have my internet working for this moment in time - can anyone of you experts tell me what on earth I can do in an event of a powercut? My fish all look well, they're quiet but it's usual for this time of night less activity, obviously the temp has dropped but the heater is up and running now and the filter is an external one. I made sure the air pump and fliter taps were closed so no worrying at least when it comes having leaks and power splurges.

I have a Tropical Tank, it's a huge tank now, with 2 glass fish, 1 ram, 1 molly, 1 loach 3 small tetras, a gourami dwarf and a albino, and bruno my little alge feeder, and one male fighting fish.

Can anyone give me any advice should I fall in the event of a powercut? I dont want my fish to suffer :( And I would stay up all night to make sure they're okay.

Many Thanks
Sara

I have a 35 gal freshwater tank and recently dropped a couple of red lily plant bulbs in. One has bloomed beautifuly and the other has started. A couple of days ago I noticed a green algae growing on the tank glass and even on some stones. It's not like the normal "fine" algae I've had that comes off easily with my magnet cleaner. It's larger and "thicker". Could the plants be the cause or something else? I do have a plecostomus. Also, is it ok for the fish if I leave the light on all the time?

I went away on vacation for two weeks, leaving fish feedings to my brother. When I came back home 5 tetras were dead, two male guppies, and one African dwarf frog. I did about a 50% water change everything was fine. One week later my friend told me to do another 50% water change. now one female baby guppy is swimming in the corner staring at the corner, and a male mollie is resting on the rocks at the bottom of the tank, but still alive. What should I do immiadietly? Tommorow i might have time to stop at a fish store...

I am starting a 55 gallon saltwater aquarium. I added the live sand first and then filled the tank up with water. After this was done I read in a book that I should have done this in reverse order. Now the water is very murky. My questions are these: Is this a really big deal that I did it in this order? Should I wait for the water to settle first before adding the salt? Should I wait for the water to settle before turning on the filter? Any other suggestions?

Is it bad to feed my fish flys that I swat around the house? I would think it would be good for them.

i just bought my new betta fish and the lady at the pet store told me to feed him three Betta Bite pellets twice a day. I put him in the tank and gave him three to eat. Within 1 minute he had eaten all three. I gave him one more that he ate quickly. Should I give him more or just let him be?

They are extremely small, smaller than a flea. they look like a small fluffly white ball with a tail. They seem to "scooch" in water. Are they good or bad, harmless? How do I kill them. I only found two so far. I heard salt and hi-temp kill most microliveforms

One of my guppies is really pregnant and the other two females in the tank are bullying it around (fin nipping, chasing etc.) Does this mean she is vulnerable and ready to drop?

The fish are a crowntail betta, 2 fancy guppies, 2 SAEs (im moving them SOON!), 2 neon tetras(1 died*:(*), 2 normal white skirt tetras, 1 "Hi-Fin" tetra, 2 "normal" black skirt tetras.
