ive finally got a ph i can live with which is 7.2 and everything else is stable and the water is soft. I noticed about 4 or days ago my female caring eggs which i assumed my fish would eat later was acting funny. About an hour later she was on her side and i knew she was dying about another hour later she was pure white and dead so i took her out. Wondering how she died. today i noticed my other female with eggs is acting funny too. I've also noticed her eyes went from dark black to gray. The two smaller ones i have are acting normal and eating good they are like half the size of the females. They are about less than an inch. The females were alot longer and bigger. maybe 2 probly less. I was wondering maybe i bought two full adults that were old and two babies and they died normally or maybe my water being soft and 80 kh and 7.2 ph are killing them my trumpet snails are fine though so yeah thanks

My Darling little Katie has neon Tettra desies, she shows all of the sighs, she used to be restless in her tank (seperated from the well fish) but now my poor little fish moves around slowly and it looks like it hurts, she looks rely acward when she moves. I thought nature would end it before it got this bad but it may just be kinder not to wait. what is the best way for this to be done?

I have two false clownfish (the most popular kind) one is larger than the other, I'm assuming he's the male. Since yesterday, he has been hanging out by the top of the heater, and sticking his head out of the water. It's not like he's gulping for air, but it's just weird. There are no signs of sickness other than this. He will only let the other (smaller) clown near him, and all others he chases away. I don't know what's wrong.
We only have 5 fish (1 domino damsel, two blue damsels, and the clowns) there are about 10 snails and a couple crabs, live rock and sand in the tank. We just added some soft coral the other day (before he began acting this way) and the tank is 55 gallons. It has been established for approx. 1.5 months with NO problems other than this. We did have a semi-agressive gramma that we removed yesterday. Please help... my fiance wants to take him out of the tank in fear that he will give something to the others, but I'm afraid he'll die. We have no other tank avail.

My goldfish had a red line along its tail yesterday and today it has spread up his body. It's white and at first I thought he was just changing colors but he's been staying at the bottom of the fish tank a lot of the time so I don't think he's normal. What is it, are there any easy remedies, and will the other fish be infected?

the yellow tang seems to go to our peppermint shimp and the shrimp will jump on it and clean it,my question is, is it cleaning the fish and will it make it better? We just bought a Scarlet skunk cleaner shrimp to fix the problem but the tang does not go near the Scarlet skunk shrimp. Do they both do the same job?

Hi, I have just set up a 20 gallon freshwater aquarium about a month ago. I have a few plants (real) and rocks but no fish yet. I have done water changes each week (20%) and am adding cycle as directed. However I am not seeing any change in the Ammonia or Nitrite at this time, when should I expect to see it rise? I was told it will shoot up after a couple of weeks then start to come down. I am seeing algae growing on the gravel already. Also when is a good time to add fish and what types are good for beginners. Should I get something that eats algae?
Thank you.

I do it textbook: 20% water change, check ph, check temp, add water conditioner/dechlorinator and wait 10 minutes to put it in the tank, vacuum the gravel, add a little diluted aquarium salt to the water before it goes in, I don't mess with the filter, and I slowly drizzle the water into the tank so as not to put the fish into shock. The last time I said I wasn't going to clean it anymore but the water level got low and I gave in. I went 3 weeks before I last cleaned it and no mortalities till yesterday when I cleaned it. I have a dead fish. Just 1. Never 2 or more. It's ALWAYS just 1 fish that dies. Help me! Do I need to just quit cleaning the tank?

I have a tank I've only used with my lizards. Never had fish before but I've made sure it's clean and sterile. What does it mean to cycle the tank for fish? how do I do this?

I've been cycling my water once ever three days and the high ammonia levels keep returning. All of my fish have died out and I was thinkinh about addind real plants to the aquarium to neutrilze the ammonium. I also noticed that brown spots have been appearing on the fake decorations in my aquarium, I think that chemicals from it might also cause some poisining. I have a gold fish aqarium and want to have only gold fish, not tropical, so I've been buying cheap feeder fish to see whether more expensive fish like koi can survive in my tank. Does anyone have any suggestions? Btw i've used an anti-ammonia neutiling solution, but I was thinking about using an alkaline solution, would that also be good?

My fish are mysteriously dissapearing. We (my fish lovin dad and i) think that the other fish may have ate them. One that dissapeared was kinda big but there were two smaller ones also. Unless my fish are dying and my dad's just flushing them and is too embarrased to tell me, i have no idea where they went. Does anyone noe what kinds of aggressive fish eat others.

She was doing this in the big tank so we moved her into her own tank, so not to infect the others. The fish store said to give her veggie food, we did that and she seemed to get better; but this morning again tail up and head down. She does not seem to have discoloration or spots, no slime so we do not think it is velvet; but who knows. We have consulted all the folks we know and checked all the books we have as well and have been unable to find anything regarding this; can someone please help?

Ok guys, I want to kill two birds with one stone... Some of you may remember my question from the other day, and we came to the conlusion that my tank is still building its biological filter... (its only 2 weeks old, and i lost a fish in my 38 gallon tank.) I took a sample to the pet store and they told me my water was between stressful and harmful with the levels of ammonia. My nitrites and nitrates were fine. I have scheduled another water change for Thurs. since my last... only 15%. So, my first question is should i let nature take its course and keep building the filter to break down ammonia, or should i use Ammo Lock, which detoxifies it.. or a similar tablet called Ammonia Buddy? And if I'm to use no chemical, will it be "survival of the fittest" for my fish? I figure if I get enough of the same answer, then I'll know the solution. Also, I have a Violet Goby, will these chemicals affect it?
I will be adding 1 more question in my "Additional details." PLEASE WAIT TO POST!
