My goldfish had a red line along its tail yesterday and today it has spread up his body. It's white and at first I thought he was just changing colors but he's been staying at the bottom of the fish tank a lot of the time so I don't think he's normal. What is it, are there any easy remedies, and will the other fish be infected?

This doesn't sound like ammonia poisoning to me. Ammonia poisoning causes reddened gills and gasping at the surface of the water, not red streaks and swimming at the bottom.

This is an infection. Isolate your goldfish so that the infection doesn't spread and start it on antiobiotic treatments.

What you are seeing is the classic signs of an internal infection. Collectively the types of infections that cause what you are seeing are called septicimia. There are no real easy cures, but a treatment with antibiotics would probably clear it up. The best choice would be Furanace, second best is Maracyn TC. Just treat as directed on the package for 10 day to 2 weeks and it should clear up.

Depending in the exact cause, yes, it could spread to your other fish without treatment.

The other option outside of what MM stated is ammonia poisoning. What is the ammonia readings for your tank? How many goldfish are in the tank and what is the size of it?

If it's ammonia, the other fish will likely become affected...not infected.

whilst fish get ill its no longer a lot what they appear as if its greater how they act.if your fish is laying on the backside of your tank its no longer sturdy.the sturdy element is that it fairly is ingesting .Do a 30% water substitute and don't over feed and see what occurs. playstation verify your water temp ,it would desire to be to heat.
