why is it my snails always die. they seem to be doing great for a few weeks and then boom they never come out of their shells again. i really like snails and ijust got a new 29 gallon so i was going to get about 3 or 4 but i just started out with one knowing my luck and it died! why ?

i always get the same type. either a dark brown round type or a yellow apple snail. they may both be apples i dunno.

i only have small tropical fish in my tank no dirty goldfish.

What sort of fish do you have in your tank Botia or commonly known loach will eat snails.

Also they like plenty of plants.

Maybe they aren't getting a healthy diet. Try throwing in a thin slice of zucchini, broccoli stem or the like. High calcium veggies are best. (Note that hard foods may only be eaten in a day or 2 when they soften.) Also algae wafers for pleco, and catfish pellets from the fish store are good as well. (Catfish pellets are generally only needed if you are feeding your fish primarily algae/veggy flakes.) Don't go wild they don't need much a slice every week or so, or a wafer or couple of pellets every 3-4 days.
