i just bought my new betta fish and the lady at the pet store told me to feed him three Betta Bite pellets twice a day. I put him in the tank and gave him three to eat. Within 1 minute he had eaten all three. I gave him one more that he ate quickly. Should I give him more or just let him be?

No matter how much he begs, how cute he looks, how much he wags at you don't over feed him.

Just give him 2-3 pellets at time and feed him 2x a day. Also go get him some Freeze dried blood worms, they love these. I give mine 3-4 worms every other day in place of a pellet serving.

Then assign one day of the week as a fast day and don't feed him that day.

Yeah that's about right, 3-4 pellets but I found that my betta who shares a 5 gallon tank with a molly, a platy, and an African albino claw frog LOVES the tropical fish flakes that you give the other fish. He'll eat it instead of the pellets and so far he seems to be fine. I also give him some dried bloodworms as a treat every once in a while. He loves those as well. Just be careful not to do what I did and pepper the water with the pellets or you'll end up with really foul water really fast. I didn't realize his stomach was the size of his eyeball.... Oops. Well, cleaned the tank and stopped overfeeding him and it's been a happy little tank since.

When I managed a Pet Store I would tell people they could feed their Betta up to 6 pellets 2 times a day.
I wouldn't go over that though.

Just let him be. He's probably very hungry from not being feed properly during shipping and while at the store. Just the same, you don't want to over feed him either. 5-6 betta bites per feeding shouldn't be too much for him really, but just keep watching well to be sure he finishes what you feed him. He will eat more normally within a few days.

It's better to under feed a fish than over feed a fish. I feed my Betta about 3 or 4 pellet 2 times a day. and he seems fine with that and he is doing great. I also ever other day or so i give him either frozen bloodworm's or brine shrimp. Its like a treat to him. Good Luck

he will be fine. bettas can go up to 2 weeks without eating, (but try not to let that happen). i have a betta of my own, and i can tell you that they eat like pigs. the more you feed him, the more he will eat, but that's not necessarily a good thing (you don't want him too fat). you don't have to feed him exactly 3 pellets every time, you can mix it up a bit. try feeding him bloodworms (freeze dried or frozen) they love it. don't worry if he eats 4 or 5 or even 6, just dont feed him 4 or 5 twice a day every day. as long as he keeps eating well, and you keep his water clean, he should do just fine.

you can actually over feed a betta, what we do is just do one shake of the food once a day. it is enough, and you make sure you clean out the tank. the one we have now we have had for over 2 years.

Let him be.

Fish will eat as much as they possibly can.

Feed him up to 5 pellets a day.

I suggest you dont
fish might look hungry most of the time but keep up with the schedule of what to feed it, i think the less the better.but not to little though.maybe he wasnt fed properly in the store & thats the reason he's hungry right now.he should be fine just dont overfeed it to much just becuase it 'looks hungry'

This has happened to me too, resists the urge to over feed, i would just feed it on its regular schedule to make sure your Betta stays healthy.
