Are platys good communial fish - I have a very large tank, with neons, Mollies and now some Platys in. I have notice over the last few days that a few neons have died and the platys (and the Mollies) are eating them. I have not seen the neons being attacked tho. Also we had a fighting fish that we took out last week cos it was attacking the neons - could it be delayed shock that is killing them now ?

People are punished for killing other people.
Why can't it be the same in the fish world. Who is gonna eat that bigger fish?

She lived in a large tank with two other fish and she lived almost a year... I was just randomly remembering this and since I was online, I thought I'd ask. It was the first pet my sis ever had... we even got my mom to call the vet, but he couldn't help. What might cause a fish's eye to fall out?

He tells me the sypher hose thing will work just fine to clean out the tank..and if i had a sick fish in there...some drops will be fine to use to kill disease...do you agree? he says it's too time consuming to empty everything out and clean tank.

I have a 12 gallon nano saltwater tank with 20lbs of live sand and 10lbs of already cured live rock. I has been running for 2 days. I tested the water earlier today and the pH was 8.2, the ammonia was 0, the nitrites were 0, and the nitrates were 5. Also, the specific gravity was 1.021 and the temperature is 78 degrees. When will it be done cycling? Should I do something to get it to cycle? I have heard that you should put a raw shrimp in the tank to create ammonia, but I do not know of anyone who has tried it. I know that I should wait and see if the levels stay stable, but how long should I wait before I can start adding fish?

I want to eventually have 2 small false percula clowns, a clown goby, a couple peppermint shrimp, 2 or 3 feather dusters, and a few hermit crabs. I am not going to add all of them at once, but I want to eventually have that much in it. Would it be too much to add a small blue/green chromis to cycle the tank with and then just leave it in there?

I just brought the gourami home for the summer, and am trying to find the best place to keep him. He is in a 5 gal. tank, and I thought that if they won't kill each other, the beta could move in with him until August.

My "feeder" fish (one of those 25 cent goldfish you buy to feed to snakes and stuff) is at least 7-8 years old. He was like the fish you see at carnivals for prizes, but he grew to about 3 or 4 inches long. He lost his orange color about 4 years ago. But why on earth has he lived so long??? All of his younger companions have long since passed away. I am worried about him being lonely, but I don't want more fish right away after he dies...I have never heard of a common goldfish living so long....

I am cycling my 29 gallon tank. I have had 7 dainos in it since Monday. Things got cloudy and have since cleared up quite nicely. I have not done a water change or tested my water yet, I plan on doing that tomorrow. My question is this, what would you put in next, and what is the next step? Am I on the right track? Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thankyou!!

I bought a goldfish but can't identify its type (ranchu, oranda, moor, etc;). I only know that it's a goldfish because the guy that sold it to me said it was one. Any help would be appreciated.

our son got a mini-bow for his birthday and we have 2 dwarf platies in it. my question is that the whisper filter doesnt do anything when its on the low setting (seriously, water doesnt even come falling out) but now its on high, the current seems really strong, it looks like the fish are having to swim really hard to keep from swirling around in circles, will this hurt them, is it bad for them? do i need to buy another filter? any suggestions? thank you in advance

Why does my 5-6 yr old pleco ( 6-8" long) have holes in the fin on his back and his tail is all ragged looking, there is another very small pleco in the tank and a albino catfish that is 14" long but have never seen them "attack" each other. Is this some kind of fungus or disease? Thanks in advance.

i started a second tank because i want to have some different types of fish (and you cant really mix cichlids with other fish) anyway i just bought some really common little guys, a couple mollys a couple neons and two other little guys, 5 of them have already died, the tank is cycled (with the cichlids water even) so i dint understand ,are regular tropical fish harder to keep then my cichlids?
