I bought a goldfish but can't identify its type (ranchu, oranda, moor, etc;). I only know that it's a goldfish because the guy that sold it to me said it was one. Any help would be appreciated.

It is a wakins fan tail, Or what they call a fancy in some places) however it looks like a cross breed actually. It isn't a Jikin (chances are you won't find them here in the states unless you know someone who breeds them)

I breed goldfish and I do have a few that get crossed from time to time, even comets will cross with fancy's and they look a lot like your photo, however I believe it is a wakins

It is a "fancy" goldfish. If you bought it at one of the big pet stores (not a store dealing strictly with aquariums and fish), that is about the best you can say. It could be a fantail or a ryankin but is probably some sort of crossbreed.
A "fancy" goldfish is anyone of the egg-shaped goldfish.

Based on the degree of curvature of it's back and lack of "tuck under the body" to the tail, I'd have to call it a fantail: http://www.kokosgoldfish.com/ftypes.html

Note: Goldfish and carp are related, but different species.

It looks like a a Ryunkin or a Pearscale or a Fan-tail Goldfish. It will be better if you had your pet store tell you.

it is a ryukin fantail but it's colors are so uncommon usally you'd see many variations of colors this can only mean one thing you're fish is a pure breed. You see Carp-Koi

Goldfish Goldfish

here is where it gets interesting okey from the breed the chose the cream of the crop based on color and other variables okey so now you have the top 50 and their breed with other fish for colors and body features. You must have gotten your hands on a goldfish from a pure carp and koi which produced pure gold fish but they must have had a bi color koi so it only produced two colors white and gold so goldfish-other fish = your goldfish congrats!

That looks like it would be the offspring of two goldfish I have. One is solid orange and the other solid white - both are shaped like that. I think they're just common goldfish.
