our son got a mini-bow for his birthday and we have 2 dwarf platies in it. my question is that the whisper filter doesnt do anything when its on the low setting (seriously, water doesnt even come falling out) but now its on high, the current seems really strong, it looks like the fish are having to swim really hard to keep from swirling around in circles, will this hurt them, is it bad for them? do i need to buy another filter? any suggestions? thank you in advance

If your Whisper Filter as anything like mine (I think they all work basically the same- no matter what size it is), there are more than just two settings. The flow knob on the top works by simply making the hole that the water flows through bigger or smaller. All the way up, the hole is open all the way. all the way down, it's almost completely shut. Try turning the flow control knob somewhere in between all the up and all the way down. If you think of the pointer on the flow control as a clock, 12:00 would be fully closed, 6:00 would be fully open- try it at around 9:00 or 3:00 (doesn't matter which), that should probably work for you.

If no water moves on the low setting, I would return the filter for replacement. Also be sure that the tank is completely filled when you try to run the low setting, Whispers sometimes have a hard time pulling the water up very high when on low. Even if they works, I think I would still replace the filter.

I'm not familiar with the mini-bow but this sounds like a defect. Call the manufacturer and ask. Since you said whisper, their customer service number is 1-800-423-6458

tere has to be somthing wrong with the filter if no water comes out on low return it also I don't know what a mini bow is but I'm pretty sure you wanted to say mini-bowl and for 2 dwarf platties they sould al least have 2 gallons of water plus bowls are crual: you can barly do anything fo filtration because of the size and shape, you don't have much room for decoration, and fish really don't have much place to go and yes they can remember more than 3 seconds.

you can get a sheet of sponge made for fry and put it around the intake -- or use just about anything similar and put it on with a rubber band. an extra piece of sponge in the filter housing helps too.

Not the filter, but the tiny overcrowded tank. Putting that into a 10 gallon tank will solve all problems now and the one's you will be dealing with shortly.
