Goldfish are omnivores and will eat just about anything! Any flake or pelleted food that's made for them would be a good staple food. Rather than specify an amount of food (since the sizes of pellets will vary), give them just enough that they can eat everything in 2-3 minutes two times each day.

There are plenty of things you can give them as treats to replace their regular foods once in a while. They should get some plant fiber in their diet, otherwise they can get constipated, so give them some cooked peas with the skins removed, squash, beans, shredded carrot, red pepper, pumpkin, and romaine lettuce (not iceberg). For protein, give them occassional thawed frozen bloodworms or brine shrimp. Here are some other ideas: http://thegab.org/Articles/GoldfishNutrition2.html

You can add plants to your bowl that goldfish love to much on. Flakes, pellets, what ever you feed, Each food is differant so read the instructions. The manufactureers are the best guides to go by The plants will supply beween meal snacks. Just don't put a bunch of stuff that lies around un eaten. Thats a fast way to get rid of goldfish.

Flake food of any type is good for goldfishes, and you only feed them bit by bit, as much they can eat within 5-10 minutes. It is also very cheap. Even if they are eating beyond that time, do not feed anymore. Its always good to have a little less fed fish rather than a overfed fish.
