please tell me the benefits and disadvantages of neutering a male.
I do not want pro - neutering lectures or information of a general nature, I wish to hear from breeders/owners of cocker spaniels.
Photos of your spaniel (neutered or not) would also be very apprieciated.
Thank you

I have recently bought a puppy, she is a very small breed chihuaha size (12 weeks old), I decided the best way to toilet train would be with a crate but I would be grateful of any tips.
She hates being in the crate but I am doing my best to ignore her when she cries, obviously I let her own regularly for the toilet and she is not shut in there all the time. I have only had her two days so I understand she will take time to get used to it.
Any ideas what to do if I catch her going to the toilet in the house? Please don't suggest rubbing her nose in it.

I'm sure that no one can tell me exactly why my puppy is whining.. But I got her a little squeaky toy. She plays with it all the time and she seems to be talking to it. She whines along with it squeaking. Any idea why she is "talking" to it?? I dont know if she needs something or not?

I just got a new puppy a couple of weeks ago. She is a Shih Pom. We keep her in a pet taxi when we are not playing with her and at night. She has little bumps on her belly. It actually looks like pimples. I don't know what to put on them or what to do different for her. We put a towel in the pet taxi for her hoping that it would help. Any suggestions on what it could be??

I recently got a stray dog. She's so cute and nice. I'm in China right now and I'll be going back to the U.S. in about 2 months. I've researched the requirements to bring my dog into America, and the main one is that she needs to have proof of having the rabies vaccine. Being that she's a stray, I don't know if she's had the vaccine. Let's say she actually has had it recently....is it dangerous if she gets another one? I hope someone can help me. If I can't get her a documented rabies shot, then I can't bring her back with me.

My dog has been vomiting since before 8 am and it is now almost 11pm. his vomit is greasy and foamy, and he can't keep down any fluids. he was in an unfamiliar place with a lot of comotion for a few days and i wonder if it is just stress, but we are home now and he is still sick. What's wrong with him?

Boo had an accident in her crate. First night locked up, so it's not all that surprising. All in all she got pee on her cow, pillow, and blanket *pillow and blanket are fleece*

I just got done hand-washing the pillow and cow in the sink with a little woolite, and then I realised that there may be problems if there were still a little of the detirgant left in either. Should I send them through a rinse-cycle whenever it gets to be a decent hour, or should I not wory all that much about it?

The blanket's just going to get a normal wash.

We have just adopted an 8 week old rottweiler/akita puppy (against my discretion), and she is very protective, as both breeds have a reputation to be. Where I live, it would be nice to have a dog who is watchful of us, but I do not want her to be too aggressive (also a trait of both breeds.) We have a beagle/jack russel mix, and she is not at all protective.. she loves anyone and everyone who looks in her direction. But they wrestle around and the puppy is VERY aggressive. I know that Akitas have an animal aggressive temperament. How can I train her to be protective, but not SCARY? I don't want her to be the type of dog we have to put away if we have guests. And I don't want to worry that she will outgrow the other dog and be a danger to her or my cats. However, I do like that she barks when someone comes to the door, or growls when someone unfamiliar approaches me. I just don't know how to train her not to cross the line. Is this just out of my league??

We lost our dog 3 yrs ago, at the time I just had a baby, now our kids are older (they are 3, 5 & 16). We've always had dogs, but every dog we ever had was a "used" dog - somewhat older & already trained. Is it best to get a puppy when you have small children so the dog "grows up" with them? What about an older dog, say from a humane shelter? Could an older dog be good with young kids even if they didn't grow up together? How do you know if a dog is okay with kids & also the cat who lives in our house? Or maybe we shouldn't get another dog right now. Please help?! Thx!

He has just had surgery, the last one he will be able to have as the cancer is seated in the chest wall.. it has NOT spread to the organs... yet.. I have him on a supplemental program with a high protein diet and he is also taking antihistamines as this cancer is caused by histamines... the vet put him on Rimadyl 75mg 2x daily.. he is also an epileptic..so he takes phenobarbitol 2x daily... vet also added thyroxin to help him heal more normally.... I am living on disability so my finances are very tight... but I love this dog so... he is my best friend and my companion... Is there hope that he may get stronger with the immune system boosters... and the antihistamines may stave off the spread of this diabolical killer... I am just so heartbroken and am keeping a strong positive front around my sweet friend... Is it the cancer that will eventually take him from me or all these medications.... I have heard that Rimadyl is extremely hard on the system...

My westie is close to a year old, and has been on Pedigree Puppy Food for a while now. He loves it, more than previous (more premium) foods, and he tolerates it fine. He never gets tired of it, maybe because of its variety. I always read, though, about NOT using "grocery store brands." IS Pedigree a grocery store brand? Is it okay for a westie? (He has no bad symptoms.)

My chihuahua recently lost her companion. Theyve been together 5 years. They ate together, played together, slept together, did everything together. She is very sad and just seems as if she wants to sleep alot now. She witnessed the death of her mate and now everytime I take her outside, she runs to the spot in the street where he died and literally inhales the ground. She also always runs to the area where he was layed before we burried him. She is eating and drinking and normally, but Im still very worried about her. Ive read that even when a dog is eating a drinking normally, they can still be grieving heavily. In some cases the dogs actually grieve themselves to DEATH. :( I dont feel its the right time to add another dog to the family because I dont want to replace our recently lost baby. I feel that adding another dog may only stress out our remaining chihuahua even more and cause her to be in more pain inside. I need help. Any suggestions?

I am thinking about getting a puggle and I want to make sure she won't get too big. I know as a puppy she will be smaller than when she is mature, but I don't want her to be too big. -Please serious answers only and no answers against getting a puggle for the reason of being a "designer dog" or "encourging the sale of blended breeds". Thanks.-
