My neighbors keep their dog outside in the back yard all year long, no matter how hot or freezing the weather is. He is on a chain and the only refuge he has from the cold or rain is a small wooden dog house. He is never being taken inside the home and he barks alot. I'm not sure what breed he is, his size is about the same as of a grown German Shepherd, but his fur is orange and kind of long. I feel bad for that dog, each time I hear it barking I look out my window and I see it's standing in the back yard of my neighbors' house, in front of their door, facing it, as though it wasnts to be let in. They seem to keep him there as a guard dog, but don't even guard dogs need to be let in the house every now and then, is it humane to keep a dog outside all the time? Is this considered animal abuse? If it is, what can I do about it?

I love my puppy very much.Recently he has become allot more destructive. He is a Jack Russel, Cocker Spaniel cross he is so friendly and cute and playful. He likes to target our sofa bed. The only way we can stop him from pulling all the stuffing out of it when we go out is by putting cardboard on it (which he shredds). Today for example he did the sofa bed, turned the bin out over the floor (but this was our fault as there were food wrapping in it) and chewed up our telephone book. We give him big things to chew on when we go out. we take him on long walks to make him tired. We praise him if he is good. We have tried both ignoring when bad and shouting when bad. We have tried chew sprays and spicy things. But our puppy now really loves spicy things lol. The only thing we havent tried is sound averson. But we arnt there to make a loud noise when he is bad. Thank you for any ideas. Im now considering hiring some sort of dog sitter but where could I find one? Or any cheaper ideas

So, i take my dog to work with me every day- and he plays with all my guys there, and everyone loves him right..... so i took him into work today and he relieves himself in the floor, big no no and he knows that. He knows better, he's fully potty trained. So, i spank him (and i didn't beat him) just hard enough to hurt his feelings. and one of my guys SCREAMS at me to not "hit him again" like i was beating him. I don't beat my dogs, they are all very well behaved, and a little spanking every once in a while will not hurt them.

Anyway- i was wondering if anyone else in this world thinks it is getting rediculous with kids (parents spanking their kids) and pets (people spanking their dogs). Seems like i hear all the time of people calling DHS or Animal control to come "rescue" an animal or kid that has been spanked for doing something negative. I was spanked as a child and i turned out just fine.

Rediculous or not? And what are your views?

I'm the mom with the 3 and 4 year old in search for the right beed. Thank you for all your responses, they have helped out a lot! Ok so what do you guys think of a soft coated wheaten terrier? Do you think they would be good and if so do you know of any breeders. I think Labs might be just too big. We're looking in the 40lbs and below range. Again thank you for all your help!!

She is a 9 year old chihiau and is about 16 pounds. I have been cutting a 325mg aspirin in half and give it to her 1-2 times a day. I am off work and recieve a very small disability check so I really can't take her to the vet and I hate to have her suffering. Thanks.

I give her a Denta bone to clean her teeth. I give her a new one when she runs out. Usually about every 4 days. When I say her breath is bad it is unbearable. I am afraid of periodontal disease, but her vet said her teeth are in good shape.

I am receiving a puppy Chihuahua very soon as a present. I work in an office and have a very large desk space which is private. Would it be ok to bring him in to the office with me every day (my employeer says its fine) I just think it is better than leaving him at home all day by himself. Is this advisable? Have people done this?

My chihuahuas are picky eaters and pretty much refuse every snack. So what are some good snacks I can get them? They do love the chicken jerky & beef jerky from Costco but that's about it.

I have a 7 month old labrador who has responded well to all the training we have given so far apart from the two following things.
When he is playing he will happily put your hand in his mouth. Never to hurt and he never has hurt anyone but when he gets bigger it will obviously cause alam if he does it to the wrong person.
The other thing we struggle with is stopping him jumping up at work surfaces. This is obviously a problem as he can have muddy paws and we have to keep everything pushed to the back of shelves/window-cills/kitchen work tops etc. which isnt practical and looks cluttered to guests.

We have tried several tips from books but nothing has worked so far. I was just wondering if anyone had any other tips for me!
