I think it is a great idea, if I could take my chihuahua to work with me, he would be the happiest dog on earth. Many chihuahuas have separation anxiety, and don't do well when left alone. I would bring a crate (in case you have to leave your office) a bed, and a few toys. You might also want to think about using puppy pads, so that your puppy doesn't go all over your office...... Good luck, I hope it all works out.

I think it is a great idea. As long as your boss does not care. I would take some water and a little food. You will also have to take the dog outside or have pee pads, and you will want a small crate for when you can not be with the pup. I have 2 Chihuahuas and I take mine as often as possible. I love them so much, and I think they are the greatest dogs in the world. I am sure you will be very pleased. Your dog going to work will also be a great way to socialize your new pup, and that is very important with Chi's. You want to get them used to other people, children, and other animals from a young age. They will not be yappy and snappy if they get proper socialization from a early age.
You will also want a small sweater or coat, and a warm blanket for the pup when you are taking it back and forth, especially if it is a short coat Chi, as they get cold very easily. Good Luck with your new pup, and I am sure it is a beautiful baby.

Go for it! Take your pup to work--Cant hurt to try it out for a while. The good thing is its a young pup and will get used to going to the office with you daily and will get into the routine. All chihuahuas arent yippy/yappy dogs--with yours at work every day it will get to know everyone in the office and thats a great socialization beginning. Just bring a small playpen and supplies and i think you will be fine! I bet your pup will end up being the office baby!!

A dog is a huge, permanent responsibility. Think of it almost as a child.
Get the dog trained first. Sign yourself and your pup up for some classes. The dog must be trained to go to the bathroom outside and to not bark indoors before you take him/her to the office. Maybe try crate training at home first. I found this very useful.
Even though your boss okayed it, first try taking the dog to work only on Fridays to see how the dog (and other staff) react. Other co-workers may want to bring their dogs to work and this could cause tension between co-workers and more than one dog in the office could cause territorial problems.

I wouldn't advise it even though your employer okayed it. Some people have allergies. Chihuahua's are little yippy yappy things - and them being little makes it more fathomable it could get stepped on. All dogs smell to a certain degree (some more than others). If you don't want to leave him home all day, I suggest you opt for a different present.

I have never heard of this, can't believe your boss has said this is ok, they must be very understanding!!
Ask yourself these questions:
Are you going to be able to give him the attention he will probably crave whilst you are working?
Can you take him out for toilet breaks?
Will other colleagues be ok with you bringing your dog to work?
Will he get too attached to you, and when there comes a time when you need to leave him at home by himself, will he settle?
At the end of the day, he is a dog, no matter how small & cute he looks. Is the office a correct enviroment for a dog??
Good luck in your decision, hope it works out for you.

Well I think if you find it ok to leave the pup at home, then you should. Puppies take alot of attention, which may throw you off at work. Plus because they have to eat, and pee and poop all the time, then I really dont think it would be best to take it to work. Is there anyone else in the home that will be there to take care of it while you are at work?

As long as your employer says it's ok you're in the clear. I frequently dog sit for my sister-in-law's chihuahua/jack russell mix and my parents' dachshund and always bring them to work with me. I know they prefer it to crying & howling waiting for me to come home.

It depends on the type of office, but I myself would find it distracting to have a dog at the office. I have a dog, but I get really annoyed when people feel like they have to take their pets with them everywhere. And I am sorry, but your pets are not your babies or your kids (they are still just animals).

As long as your employer is happy then go ahead, but make sure the puppy can't wander off and has food, water and access to a toilet.
