So, i take my dog to work with me every day- and he plays with all my guys there, and everyone loves him right..... so i took him into work today and he relieves himself in the floor, big no no and he knows that. He knows better, he's fully potty trained. So, i spank him (and i didn't beat him) just hard enough to hurt his feelings. and one of my guys SCREAMS at me to not "hit him again" like i was beating him. I don't beat my dogs, they are all very well behaved, and a little spanking every once in a while will not hurt them.
Anyway- i was wondering if anyone else in this world thinks it is getting rediculous with kids (parents spanking their kids) and pets (people spanking their dogs). Seems like i hear all the time of people calling DHS or Animal control to come "rescue" an animal or kid that has been spanked for doing something negative. I was spanked as a child and i turned out just fine.
Rediculous or not? And what are your views?

LOL! Thanks for all the answers guys! keep em coming! I just think it's rediculous that people can't even discipline their children or pets anymore without someone freaking out. Who was he to tell me how to discipline my dog?

There are many trainers who inflict a small amount of pain to teach the animal. I know of a trainer who trained schnauzers and their punishment was a turning of the ear until the dog squeaked.
I'm with you on this because I believe that their is an aggresive push to get responsibility and consequence out of our society. When something happens people want to blame someone else instead of taking responsibility for their actions and accept the consequences. Eventually, we will have legislated ourselves into anarchy, and I see in the near future legislation that will ban any form of discipline from a parent other than "pep talks".
Beat the dog. He was bad, he got a woopin'. He'll associate taking a piss on the carpet with a woopin' and won't do it next time.

First of all, my first concern would be that the dog may have a bladder infection. Sometimes when well trained animals relieve themselves in a very familliar place where it is highly uncommon for them to do so any other time means they may be trying to tell you (in the best way they know how) that something is wrong. I have 3 very well trained dogs and it has happened to me before. It wouldn't hurt just to get the dog checked with the vet.
Regarding the spanking....Well my opinion on that is sort of mixed. I was spanked as a child and turned out just fine however as an adult I have chosen not to spank my children but to try find other less physical means of disciplining them. As for my dogs, well, they get spanked, especially for things they know and were trained not to do, such as begging for food. It has to be extreme though. Ususally a firm NO or GO LAY DOWN works.
Don't let people's reactions get to you. Everyone will ALWAYS have an opinion.

i did not comprehend he stated it replaced into candy to retire. i think he stated, "i'm formally retiring from the NFL. this is all i be attentive to as i've got finished it for the final 18 years, yet i can't cope with any further mentally or bodily." ever on the grounds that, ESPN has made thoughts out of not something. come on guy, that article from Mortinson, there have been no costs and who're those mysterious materials? those materials are made up people. in case you decide directly to blame everyone for the dilema, blame espn. Favre is conserving to himself. the Letterman instruct, all Favre stated replaced into, "i might start to omit the activity whilst preparation camp starts." do not all soccer gamers say that? it does not propose he's coming back. oh, by potential of how, on Wed night after the excellent drama, Favre publicly stated, "this is basically a rumor." wow. this is astounding how Favre says little or no yet there is a lot drama over not something. all i will say is, ESPN knows a thank you to make ridculous issues turn exciting. i does not be shocked if espn writers start up asserting the NFL plans on playing on Mars because of fact the writers spoke to materials. haha. you're able to be able to think of it extremely is crap now, yet think of roughly it, a million/2 of espn's artciles are in line with those mysterious "materials." who're those materials?

Our society is getting way to over controlling.
We forget what having a gestapo means.
It is time everyone realizes that if they keep trying to control others it will finally be themselves that is being over controlled.
It doesn't take a village, because we should never be willing to trade our right to be individuals.
So, in many ways the answer is you are right.
That doesn't mean I agree or would do the same thing. It means that people must stop trying to over control everyone else. Unless there is a real situation that is dangerous it is none of their business. Once we let society make our ethical choices, we will have fascism

In 11 years I can sit here and honestly say I have never ever raised or thought about raising my hand to my dog. Dogs do not understand a spanking, they understand a verbal command. I am sorry but if you want my honest opinion, raising a hand to a dog just breaks the trust bond you have with him.

I have never hit my dog...but I've been pretty close some times.I think it's not abuse to spank your dog(or your children for that matter)to teach them what's right and what's not.As a child I used to pick on my little sister all the time so I have been spanked a couple of times.I personally think that you and only you can know what's better for your dog or your kids, because YOU spent their entire life caring for them and looking after them.A mother always knows better. And don't forget that the worst kind of abuse is the psychological abuse.

i completely agree with you. i mean, i dont hit my dog (not even spanking) and personally i wouldnt spank my kids, but thats just my personal choice, and there are kids out there that i would love to lay across my knee. our pup probably needs a good spanking sometimes, and i have smacked her on the butt once when she was being horiffic, but i wouldnt do it again. she was just being WAY too rough with another dog at the dog park and no matter how many times we pulled her away she just wouldnt stop provoking a fight. we usually resort to picking her up by her scruff (she's only 25lbs so we can do it to her) and she KNOWS to stop immediatly whatever it was she was doing and go lay down in her bed if we're at home. and yesterday i had to flick her in the nose cause she was overly hyper and wouldnt stop biting my hand. but persoanlly i dont want my dog fearing my hand. period. and i wont smack her. but on the other hand, i've had a dog that was as dense as a rock, and the only way to get her to pay attention and stop whatever it was that she wasnt supposed to be doing was a smack on the butt. but then i over did it one day when i was a teenager and i smacked her and she cried out and ran away from me. and at that point i said i was never going to do it again. i know i hit her too hard and i felt so horrible and hated myself for it.
its a personal choice, and there is a fine line that can be crossed. but i dont think other people have the right to tell you how to discipline your animal. just be careful, cause it can hurt their knees and hips over time. i was spanked once, and only once, as a child, i turned out fine. by bf was apparently smacked alot by his mom's bf. and i hardly doubt he was a bad kid. i just think the guy thought it was the only way to discipline. but he's a really good guy and he would never smack our dog either (unless its a last resort)

Yes that is really ridiculous.
You are allowed to discipline your dog however, as long as it is legal. Spanking it = legal.
I do the same with my puppy. He responds to it. It works. No problem.
I am also a huge animal rights activist. I do not think that this is "abuse" in any way shape or form (assuming you are not striking your dog out of anger).
This type of discipline has been proven to work. The dogs are not becoming physically or emotionally damaged in any way, and will associate wrong doing with being "spanked".
It is not abuse!

I seem to thin think that if you choose to spank a animal than it could mentally harm it. However i don't think its wrong. They do learn from repetition and if they learn that when you pee on the ground you get pain then they wont pee on the ground.
Kids on the other hand i don't think should be spanked. If you don't know how to handle you child without physical beating than you should have a child. Kids can learn from words and being taught, we shouldn't use our hands to morph their mentality.

Hitting is never the answer. With children or dogs.
I have both very well behaved dogs and children. They didn't get that way from being afriad of my hitting them.
