I’m going to be getting a second dog in middle or late summer, and I’m considering a Doberman. I’ve already read up on them quite a bit, and they sound like the kind of dog I’m looking for, but there’s nothing quite like hearing things first-hand from owners of the breed.

1. Do Dobermans tend to get along with other pet dogs in your home? Even small ones? I have a Dachshund.
2. Are they loving? This is very important to me. I want a dog who enjoys being with its family, and who would be happy to sleep on my bed. I know some breeds don’t necessarily like that sort of thing.
3. Are they generally well-behaved (if raised and trained properly)? I don’t expect any dog to be an angel, but can Dobermans sometimes be a little hard to handle?
4. What is something that bothers you about the breed?
5. What are some things that you especially like about the breed?

Please include any other information you think I should know! Anything at all would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

I have a 7 month old yorki-poo. He will not potty train. We take him out every hour to 2 hours he goes 1 and 2 and sometimes he does eachone more then once. Then he comes in and he squats no more then 30 seconds after coming in. We have tried crating, putting him outside, smacking his butt and rubbing his nose in it all at once. Im at a loss i have never had a dog go outside then just blatently come in and pee and poop inside. we know he can hold it because when we are at work he will not have accidents and he will go all night without any accidents.

I recently had to put a hotwire fence around my yard to keep my dogs from escaping through the chain link fence around my house. They now seem too scared to get move off the porch. How can I get them comfortable with the new setup and back out into the yard?

What the most important/core commands that a puppy should know?

Sit
Stay
Down

What else?
And how long after your puppy has a command down do you wait to move on to teaching the next command so not to confuse them?

We have a 4 month old spayed lab mix who is having a little
trouble. About a month ago she finished up antibiotics for a UTI. I
brought a urine sample back into the vet's for a follow-up test, and her white blood cells were high, so the vet decided to culture it for 72 hours. Her culture came back negative, and I have to wait until Wednesday to speak to the vet about next steps. She's a smart dog who knows her commands and is pretty much house-trained, but still has at least one accident (urine only) in the house
a day. The vet thinks this is linked to whatever is going on. I was hoping that the culture would find something so that we could try antibiotics again.

Have you had anything like this happen to your dog? Is it common?
for pups?

My boyfriend used to raise, train and show dogs...He is convinced that a dog's mouth has more good bacteria that destroys bad bacteria...and that a dog's mouth is germless.I cannot stand to see a person allowing a dog to lick them in the mouth...I can't believe people are that disgusting. His daughter lets her pup lick her mouth inside touching het tongue.Apparently because she has been raised to believe dogs have no germs....I have seen too many lick/eat very disgusting things. So i have to totally undoubtedly disagree with such crazinss...Any opinions on this subject????

I have a cocker spaniel/dachsund mix, and I'm just wondering if she would be good at agility. (I doubt it, because she has realy short legs, but I'm still wondering.)

Help! I am super desperate. I have a 1 year old Chow mix female. She was given to me as a puppy and was/is very hyperactive. She has always had a chewing habit despite the numerous chew toys she has. She has destroyed most of them. She is not aggressive and has never bitten anyone or barked at us. She has absolutely no food bowl aggression. She's just a stubborn girl.

She recently chewed up a young plum tree and reduced it from 6 ft. to 2 ft. She chewed through her leash one night. (We had to tie her up to prevent her from digging her way out under the chain link fence). We are about to receive some new trees and bushes any day now and we don't need her destroying our new landscape.

We have tried praising, scolding, rewards, playtime, brushing, treats, affection, etc. I am one phone call away from getting rid of her but I don't want to do that just yet. Any ideas, besides calling the Dog Whisperer?

I have done everything in my power to Potty Train this dog! He is a 2yr old Miniature Pincher and weighs 7lbs. He is a bit aggressive and wants to mark his territory all around our new house. I do everything that has been suggested such as walking when he wakes up (1am & 4am), walking after meals, walking after he gets out of his crate and even walking him every hour when I am home from work. I have stopped his water at about 7pm and he seems to just hold it in overnight!

I don’t have the time or Money to crate train him at night and that is when he has his accidents. I have put down pee pee pads everywhere he has marked his spot but he seems to find new spots around the bedroom. Can someone offer some help & let me know how you did it or what else I can do??

** Also know of any good Pet Stain Remover Products??

We got a 2 year old Border Collie from the local animal selter a few weeks ago. He wants to make freinds with everybody. He doesn't bark when anyone comes to the house. How can I get him to be wary of strangers? Or should I be glad he's so freindly?

Do you object to the dog owning folks who let them out not on a lead and cause road accidents, bite kids and foul the pavement?
