I have a 7 month old yorki-poo. He will not potty train. We take him out every hour to 2 hours he goes 1 and 2 and sometimes he does eachone more then once. Then he comes in and he squats no more then 30 seconds after coming in. We have tried crating, putting him outside, smacking his butt and rubbing his nose in it all at once. Im at a loss i have never had a dog go outside then just blatently come in and pee and poop inside. we know he can hold it because when we are at work he will not have accidents and he will go all night without any accidents.

Thank you everyone for the help. this is mind boggling to me. I am very consistant with him. I take him out before i pee in the morning, treats dont work because with treats he has one he wont eat anymore of them for about a month so we have spent a fortune on treats to find one he likes consistantly to no availe. I always see him as he is doing it because usually we are on our way in from going outside to the bathroom. Like i said he will literally go outside pee and poop (sometimes multiple times) then want to play and we will come in and he will squat 2 inches inside the door and do his stuff right in front of me. I am at a loss i have had several dogs in my life and never have i had one who has done this. ive had a dog who had accidents but not like this coming in from going. i have tried everything the vet has to offer. The only thing i can think of is hes a sick dog with a lot of genetic health problems, but still i would not pee & be able to pee again that quick and that much.

Its so bad he is jumping on the bed when i am in another room and peeing on the bed. To the point i do laundry twice a day. Im almost to a point of not letting him out of the kennel. It kills me to keep him penned up, i have not slept hardly at all cause he barks/cries all night or pees on me all night long if he is out of the crate. I just dont know what to do anymore

At 7 months it is interesting that he/she is still not house-broken. Sometimes it has to do w/ the climate outside - if it is wet - many toy dogs (because of their heiress-like behavior) tend to no enjoy being outside. It could also be a lack of attention. One simple exercise to show the dog that you are boss is to sit the dog down and stare into its eyes, don't look away until after the dog does. This shows the dog who has more dominence without physically punishing the dog. I would try this and also reward the dog when it goes outside. Any attention to the dog after it makes a mess is still attention as well, instead of scolding, just put the dog outside with a low voiced, "NO! bad!".

Start from step one, just like you would if he was a 2 month old puppy. When you are home always have him tethered to you with the leash, this way you can stop him the second he squats and bring him immediately outside. Do not scold him when you do this, instead once you are outside and he goes give him TONS of praise or a high value treat, such as a tiny piece of hotdog...only give him this treat when he goes outside.
If he does manage to make a mess inside only scold him if you actually catch him doing it. In that case say no very firmly and take him immediately outside. Clean up the mess and act like it never happened. If you didn't see him do it then clean it up and forget about it, any type of scolding will only confuse him at this point as he won't know why you are saying no.
When you aren't home keep the pup in a crate or in a secluded area such as the kitchen, with barriers to prevent him from going in the other rooms.
You may also want to get him a check up to make sure that there isn't an underlying medical problem such as a UTI.
I hope this helps, Good luck! :)

You may have to leash your puppy when taking him outdoors. Keeping him tethered, as some other posters have suggested, will remind him that you are in charge of the excursion.
More importantly, though, you may want to leave the leash on when you come inside and go swiftly and directly to the crate. I mean, directly--don't stop to take off the leash until he is inside the crate. Try crating for 15 minutes; if he does not potty inside the crate, let him out and see what happens. If he squats and pees, promptly put the leash back on and head right back outside. When you come back in, go right back to the crate, this time for 25 minutes; again, if no pee in the crate, let him out again and see what happens.
If he has successfully been trained not to potty in the crate, then I would try crating directly after your trip outdoors until he makes the association that it's not acceptable to potty indoors. I think a few days of this routine--if done consistently--should break that habit.
Good luck!!

The purpose of crate training is to teach your dog to hold his
buisneess while he is in the crate. Otherwise they will not
learn for sometime if ever when to go and where.
When you put your pet in the crate, for starters it should be only
big enough for your pet to turn around in. It sounds cruel, but
they don't do their business where they sleep. So getting him
used to the crate again, is a good idea. When he comes out
he will have to go, so be ready to take him out side. When he
does pee, give him lots of praise and make a big deal out of it,
and give him a treat. You should be using a leash and colar
on him when you take him out, also try to keep him in the same
area outside where he went. That way he will pick up the scent
and learn that's where he should go.
It's takes time and patience but in the long run it will work.
For inside I would lay day a puppy pad near his food, so if
he should go inside, he will do it on the pad, and you could
take the pad outside with you if you want to show the dog
that that is where he is supposed to go.
I am sure this will work for you, One othe thing about the crate
is that a pup sleeps alot, and needs to, they love to play, but
they should spend most of their time in the crate. You'll have
less accidents and the crate will become his bed and safe place.
It should not be used as a punishment.

It will take you a week. Put the puppy on a leash and keep the leash on your arm.
When he wakes up... outside
When he eats... outside
After he plays about 10-15 mins... outside
Say your potty word.. (mine is Hurry Up) as soon as he goes say *good hurry up* and run him back to the house and give him a treat.. he will soon get the idea that he is suppose to *go* when you take him outside and say *hurry up*... after about 2-3 days they get the IDEA of it all...
OUTSIDE is to go potty.. after they have gone and you have brought them back into the house... then you can return to the yard for play time....
With a little effort and consistency... then guess what? Your puppy is trained.
AND crate him at night so he can't roam the house and eliminate.
GOOD LUCK HON

You may have already tried this, but when he goes outside, give him a TREAT in addition to praise. This is the little push it took to make my pup realize that she must only go outside. Then, obviously don’t give him any when he goes inside. Just yell "No!" firmly once or twice and clean it up. Do not rub his nose in it. Dogs do not understand what this means.
You have to keep with this for a little while. Don't expect him to get it overnight.
I definitely wish you good luck! I just finished potty training mine, and I know how frustrating it can be!

Poor you. I understand your frustration! I currently have a rat terrier who has been very easy to train to go to the door when she needs to go out. But my dachshund, who was 16, wouldn't be very patient and peed inside if she wanted to.
I have a friend who has a YorkiePoo same as you. The dog is 12 years old, and she has never been able to potty train it. (I would have lost my patience years ago!)
I suggest Google - find a YorkiePoo website where owners share concerns and questions with one another. I found one for my Rattie and these folks have been very helpful.
Good luck!

Use a squirt bottle to spray water in his face immediately when he does this, and talk with your vet. Could be something outside bothers him. Allergies or something. Perhaps he itches when he squats outside.
Put a litter box inside and try to train him to use that. Others have had success with that.
You can even make a little patch of ground in your yard into a litter box. If there's grass or something else growing, plow it all up and make a little square border of concrete, and dump litter in the middle. Turn it every so often with a shovel and add more litter to the top, or use smooth stones, and you can hose it down so the "stuff" goes under the stones and works its way into the ground, with the smooth stones still on top. It's worth a try, IMO.
-----------
The water technique is not cruel and is recommended by many vets and pet trainers, and I know someone who made a permanent litter box in her yard for a pet who had many allergies.

Maybe with your crate training you shouldn't let him walk from outside to his cage. just pick him up and put him in. try it for a week and see if there is any difference. he just might be associating the texture of the flooring to where he goes outside for some reason.

There are many dog potty training aides and books at your local petstores. You might talk to the people and ask them which works best for a dog like yours.
