Most any dog that will fit on your lap is a good lap dog, even the mixed breeds you mentioned.

RE:
Is a ChiPin (Chihuahua and Miniature Pinscher mix) a good lap dog?
I'm planning on getting a new puppy and I want it to be small and remain small and be a good lap dog and content with just sitting with. I have two choices for dogs I would like a ChiPin or a Puggle.

The Min Pin is of Terrier personality, (pinscher is German word meaning 'terrier', although it is classed with AKC as a toy) and although affectionate, has other interests than your lap..A Chihuahua is a warmth-seeking dog, and loves to stay on the couch with you..I would think a mix of those two may or may not be the cuddle bug you are wanting.
Certainly NOT a puggle..The Beagle has a huge prey drive, and will not be happy as a couch potato, until it is old...Whereas my pug had NO prey drive, and although playful, was a real cuddle bug.
Your best bet may be to go to this site> http://search.petfinder.com/search/search.cgi
Put in your own zip code, and look for the perfect little lap buddy. Most of these dogs are in foster care, where they are being evaluated for their personalities..and you have a good chance of finding just what you want..whether a mixed breed or purebred..
Happy Shopping!

The Min Pin should have never been crossbred with a Chi. These dogs have 2 totally different objectives. The Min Pin was bred nearly 200 years ago for the sole purpose of ferreting out rats & mice on German farms. They are listed in the toy group in the US and UK only due to their first showing in the US in the early 1900's under the misc category. When they finally were recognized by the AKC they put them in the "toy" group which to this day has caused a great deal of poor breeding. A true German bred Min Pin is much stronger in appearance than what is generally bred in the US. Here too many breeders have tried to breed the dog down thus creating a unhealthy Pin. Pinscher does not mean terrier in German. The word Pinshcer is used to describe the way it works and is a definition such as a "setter". The word Pinscher in German means "biter" which was used to describe the way the dog attacked it pred. Of all the "toy" breeds the Min Pin has maintained it's inherit instincts for which it was bred, to hunt more than any other "toy" breed. In Europe the Pin is a member of the Terrier family and in the US approx 60 years ago the Pin was added to the breed stock in breeding the American Rat Terrier. The Chi though can be protective is not instinctively going to show aggression toward strangers like a Pin is capable of. They are not as territorial though can be a lap dog. A Pin is an independent breed by natire and will be a lap dog when it wants to be, not when you want it to be. They are not prone to being overly handled as this takes their independent attitude out of them in time and can be cause for nipping. Breeders who breed Chi's and Pins if they knew anything at all about the breeds would have never done so but money speaks loudly to these type of breeders who generally ask a price higher than what a purebred Chi or Pin sells for. Be wary of certain mixed breeds as you are only taking a chance of double the medical and health issues once you add health issues to watch for in the Chi then add those to the health issues you need to watch for in the Pin. In addition, reading about the 2 separate breeds would generally help anyone understand the complexity when mixing certain breeds. Issues that could come out later down the road. Oh, I am a former long time breeder who currently has 10 Min Pins. I rescue and have adopted 7 of my 10. I have spent nearly 45 years breeding and raising and with this breed can tell you, mixing is never a good idea. Good luck. If you want a true lap dog, look at Pom's, Maltese, Papillon as well as Chi.

I would agree with the above. Puggles are great dogs! However, I think they are a little to active for someone who is looking for a lap dog. While they are not overly active. They do require adequate daily exercise.
Your best bet would be to look at the Toy group of dogs. There are many great choices in that category including the chihuahua, Maltese, and Yorkshire terrier.
Good Luck!

Min Pins are actually a terrier breed and they are not going to make good cuddle buddies.
They are assertive and very active.
Puggles anything beagle mixed is going to have a high prey drive to hunt and chase also not a good cuddle option.
Both of these are going to have a high energy tempermant and need lots of exercise.
If you are looking for a lap dog look at breeds that were bred as companion only animals and not as hunters or ratters.

I love my Chi Pin. She is only 5 months but had so much energy she keeps me exercising, which is well needed w/all of the obesity in the U.S. They require a lot of attention & because she's so young she takes lots of naps (she's 5lbs). She has traits from both origins. She barks when she hears anyone aproach the yard, she nips a lot, she has burst of energy & plays & runs until shed tired, & then when she's tired she gets very affectionate & crawls on me licking till she falls asleep. My get says that it's best for me to take her out to potty every 2 hrs so be ready. I've bn trying to pad train her bcuz of the cold weather right now but to no avail but she runs right outside & potty w/no problem.

the chi pin mex was made when bad breeders found out they could get more puppys by mixing the two breeds and make more money selling theim as chihuahuas. It wasnt cross bread for good reason such as temperment or size or health reasons. Some breeders are now telling people their buying cross breeds but basicaly what your getting is a very lg chihuahua. What you need to do is look at the temperment and personality of each parent to get a clue of what that puppy will possably be like.chihuahuas have three basic personalitys scardy cats that cower and hide, agresive yappers that nip bark and bight and dont allow any one into their home.and super sweet cuddle babys that love to be in your lap 24/7.most minipins iv experanced are bad smelling and agressive.not a good breed but that my opinyon.A better cross breed for a chihuahua would be pomerain or poodle
