My boyfriend used to raise, train and show dogs...He is convinced that a dog's mouth has more good bacteria that destroys bad bacteria...and that a dog's mouth is germless.I cannot stand to see a person allowing a dog to lick them in the mouth...I can't believe people are that disgusting. His daughter lets her pup lick her mouth inside touching het tongue.Apparently because she has been raised to believe dogs have no germs....I have seen too many lick/eat very disgusting things. So i have to totally undoubtedly disagree with such crazinss...Any opinions on this subject????

That's nasty - and very dangerous. Puppies carry internal parasites passed from the mother - in their saliva. Allowing a dog to lick you IN the mouth is a sure way to end up with roundworms, hookworms, coccidia, gardia, lungworms and worse...Dogs do not have BETTER bacteria - they have DIFFERENT bacteria - their mouths are by no means sterile or germless. Your boyfriend may know how to mate a dog - but he obviously doesn't know anything about dogs! Think about it - if a dogs mouth is so clean why do bite wounds get infected? If a dogs mouth is so clean why do dogs get cavities? How would disease (like parvo) be passed between puppies when they only share toys? Because of the bacteria in their saliva!!!!
Keep the flow of the germs in mind when you kiss his daughter goodnight!

It is a fact that dogs do have what is referred to as an "antiseptic " mouth. They posses a very large Resistance to most forms of bacteria. Lord knows the things they tend to eat at times would under normal circumstances kill them were it not for their resistance to such germs. It is even referred to in the Bible re the dog licking the sores of someone as a benefit towards the healing. As far as allowing pups and dogs to lick a person in the mouth that is a bad practise, it is true also that a person can pick up worms from such a practise. Cheers!

I can't stand my dog trying to lick me in the mouth. It doesn't bother me to get licks on the hands or even the face but nobody should let any animal kiss their mouths yucky but really they don't have as many living germs in their mouths as humans do. A kiss from another human would probably make someone more sick than a kiss for a dog. Just think of all the contagious crap humans pass from one person to the next, gross. Try licking your own sore sometime and see how fast it heals then let a dog lick it, bet it heals faster. That is just their saliva and the magic of it. Seriously my dog I had as a child licked my sore and it healed great but wasn't healing with Neosporin (figure that one out lol). So while no I don't necessarily think their mouths are "clean" they are in my opinion even with the licking of certain areas cleaner than the human mouth.

A dog's tongue is not only his wash cloth but also his toilet paper.

read the attached article...apparently some believe that the mouth of a dog is cleaner than a human...personally i have seen my Golden Retriever eat her own dropping and smelled the breath afterwords...there is no way in hell that i would allow my dog to lick in my mouth..but i will love her to death.

No mouth is germless but dogs have good enzymes in their mouths that kill bad bacteria. A dogs mouth is cleaner then a human mouth and honestly, if you only knew what in the human mouth, you would never kiss anyone again LOL

Dog's mouths have many more harmful germs to humans than human's mouths. There are no anticeptic properties in a dog's saliva, this is a myth. If you licked your wounds they would heal just as fast as if a dog licked them. Spend some time watching your dog, their mouths are exposed to nasty things all day long! They also use their tongues as toilet paper and for many other functions that humans do not.

Originally, doctors noted higher infection rates among people who were bitten by humans over people who were bitten by dogs, but this has since been disproven.

Dogs have more enzymes in their saliva than humans do. It isn't necessarily "cleaner" so much as more able to clean/break down things in their mouths. While it is not the best to let a dog lick you in the mouth, depending on her age, it is fairly normal. Small children let dogs do that, but eventually will stop.

No dogs do have a natural antibiotic in their saliva, so when they get hurt in the wild, they can heel fast. I know it sounds bad because they lick themselves, but it's a natural antiseptic, otherwise there would be fly's and bugs following around behind them all the time. If you ever get a small cut, try letting a dog lick it a few times, and watch how fast it heels.

Dogs do not have cleaner mouths than humans.
I can't stand a dog licking my face! ICK!

They have different enzymes that destroy human germs that is why you very rarely see a dog with a human cold!

My husband has a blind spot in his eye which was caused by dog germs!! So how clean can they be??

But no....they are NOT cleaner...just a differen type of filthy!
