I would wait until next year when you know you will be available to train and socialize your dog. Dogs new to a family require an enormous amount of time. Research all the breeds you are interested in. Visit akc.org and click the breed links for info. One breed may be better suited to your lifestyle than another.

Im 14 and girl also and i have 10 dogs and i am getting more all the time. I would wait untill your going to have time to bond with the dog right away because then when you did go away again, if you had to, you would have the time to plan on who will be able to take care of it based on who it likes and things like that. And i would say get a doberman, but that is just me...I like them more. But I would also say go with one that you find and is an awesome dog...I have mini-dachshunds and i think they are the best breed of dog in the world! Good luck!

You need to wait on getting a dog. I have had dogs all my life and i have never until recently spent more then a week away from my dogs. I am in the military and had to leave for a month my 6 month old puppy. I left him witha friend and her daughter and they took great care of him, but he is not the same. He has very bad seperation anxiety and is back to being unpotty trained. If you leave your dog for 3 months do not expect them to be the same. It is very hard on them. another thing you need to think about is if your parents will take him. if your 14 you will probably go off to college in just a few yrs, your dog will still be very healthy and you will have to leave them. Make sure your parents are willing to take it and dont expect it to bond with you the same way it did before.

you should get a dog when you can take proper care of it financially, physically and emotionally. dogs need a lot of care and are an expense. you should not have on unless yo u are able to provide for it.

Well, YOU wouldn't be getting the dog, your parents would. They're the ones who will be financing it; buying it's food, paying medical expenses, driving it to the vet, etc. So basically, it's not up to you.
