I'm sure that no one can tell me exactly why my puppy is whining.. But I got her a little squeaky toy. She plays with it all the time and she seems to be talking to it. She whines along with it squeaking. Any idea why she is "talking" to it?? I dont know if she needs something or not?

It's perfectly normal. I have a corgi, and he "talks" to me, toys, and my baby. If I say things in a certain tone, he will reply with little whines, and yelps and such. He does the same with his squeaky toys. When the baby gurgles, and laughs, he will try to do the same. It's a form of communication, and play for them.

One reason why dogs like squeaky toys is because it mimics the sound prey make in the wild. So it's possible that your dog is pretending it's another animal and it's challenging it.

Most dogs will bark at a squeaky toy for the same reason, but if they're taught not to bark, they will whine instead.

I have a lil toy chihuahua. And he does the same thing. I guess they are sort of challenging the toy. But most of the time they don't need anything. Have you ever seen two dogs play. They make noises as to be laughing. Its quit amusing.

challenging the toy does seem like a reasonable reason to her doing this. I wouldn't be too worried. Most pet's know who to get their food and other nesesities from, and generally it isn't the toy.

maybe because your dog thought that the toy is talking to her,how old is she?is she still a baby about 8-9 months because dogs are a bit like humans.they are like babies who are just discovering things.
