My westie is close to a year old, and has been on Pedigree Puppy Food for a while now. He loves it, more than previous (more premium) foods, and he tolerates it fine. He never gets tired of it, maybe because of its variety. I always read, though, about NOT using "grocery store brands." IS Pedigree a grocery store brand? Is it okay for a westie? (He has no bad symptoms.)

It would probably be better if you could feed the dog a more quality food like: Solid Gold

All those grocery store dogs foods and full of junk and shortens the dogs life, gives them allergies, arthritis, disgestive problems, etc.

You will have a healthier dog and cut way down on Vet bills if you feed the dog a premium food like Solid Gold.

My dog was eating IAMS and Eukanuka (considered good foods) but he got arthritis so bad he could hardly walk (about $500 in Vet bills and meds) . I read about Solid Gold and put him on it and in less that 2 weeks he was walking normally.

Pedigree is a grocery store brand. It's OK but it's not great quality. Look at the ingredients list and you will see that cereals of some kind will probably be no. 1 on the list and that the protein sources won't be listed separately. Feeding Pedigree to your dog is a bit like accepting that you are happy to eat mediocre quality food - it won't do any harm but you wouldn't be as healthy as you could be.

I would recommend a premium food e.g. IAMS, Eukanuba, Hills, Royal Canin, Nutro or James Wellbeloved.

Yes, Pedigree is a grocery store brand. The reason he likes the taste more is because they spray the kibble with liquid fat and add extra salt to make the nasty stuff more tasty. YUCK. Take him off the puppy food. He doesn't need to be on it longer than 6 months. In fact, giant breeds should never be on puppy food. Avoid foods that have corn, wheat, soy, sorghum, beet pulp, and mystery meats and/or by products. In other words, you want named meat sources (i.e.-chicken meal NOT animal bone meal). Brands like Pedigree, Purina, Science Diet, Iams, Eukanuba are all not suitable. Brands like Chicken Soup, Canidae, Innova, some of the Solid Gold and Nutro products, Merrick, California Natural are great. Your dog will be eating less and pooping less.

First feed him what ever the breeder is feeding him. Ask them for some. Feed him that for the 1st couple of days then progressively blend on your new canines nutrition. do not replace it without warning. i don't propose Pedigree or any food market canines nutrition. don't be frightened of the fee as with the better high quality (not inevitably the main costly) you finally finally end up feeding much less so the fee distinction isn't as great as you may think of. the further benefit is that the stools would be smaller because of the fact the canines digests extra. look on the ingredients. Meat may be the considerable ingredients and corn, flour, wheat, and maximum grains are not any no's. as are preservatives. additionally, you will discover on the internet some web content that fee the canines meals by style. sturdy success with your new pup.

Pedigree is not a store brand but is not a high quality food.

There are foods out there that cost a lot but are not the best.

I say as long as you supplement the pedigree with some plain fat free yogurt and a raw egg a couple of times a week.. your dog will be just fine.

GOOD LUCK

Feed your dog on whatever suits you and suits him. If your dog likes Pedigree it won't do him any harm. Grocery store brands usually means "own brand" - Tesco Dog Food, Asda Dog food etc.

If your dog likes and tolerates this food, then there is no reason to change it.
