Dogs - March 2007

Whenever i am passing on streets and i see dogs near by me , and i found alone on that road, usually i change that way immedately and use another way. I think i am not having good signals with dogs. i think if i will get near to them , they will byte me ?

What is the best way to pet dogs ?

When I give my hard dog bones or treats, he chews on them so fast that his gum starts to bleed, especially with the hard bones that they sell at the store. I have started to give him the milk bone biscuits instead, and his gums don't bleed with them. Is there a reason why his gum might be bleeding when he chews on those bones? Is it because he was chewing too hard, or could it mean there is a problem with his teeth?

Okay, please don't give me a dumb answer here. I know it's a common stupid question. We've had our dog for almost 5 yrs, he's 7. For the first time EVER (that we've seen), he's started sitting and pulling/rubbing his butt across the floor. WHY do they do that? Is he sick? Is there something wrong? He isn't acting any different. He's done this twice in the last week. The only thing I can think of that's odd about him is that he has allergies. Please, no stupid answers.

I get scared when larger breed dogs growl or bark.
I got attacked by a corgi before and certain breeds make me nervous, but the breeds that I like are : Maltese, poodles, schnauzers, pugs and miniature mutts.

Also, due to a mild allergy, dogs with coarse hair like labs tend to make my skin itch. Yet, poodles and cavalier king Charles spaniels and those breeds mentioned above didn't make me itch.

A dog would give me an excuse to walk around and not look weird, especially when I go too close to people w/dogs.

she is a short haired, 7 month old female chihuahua and today she was on my lap and i noticed a lot of her hair was stuck on my shirt. i looked at her back and there was a lot of hair that had fallen out on her too. the hair near her butt is also very dry and looks kinda colorless [[its not soft and shiny like the other hair]] this has never happened to her before. why is it happening and what should i do?

I have a min pin. whenever i try to give her treats/bones/etc, she puts them in her mouth and then runs around whining and acting like she cant get it out. i will take it out of her mouth for her and then she does it again. there is nothing wrong with her teeth, i think this is a behavioral issue. ive tried everything, big bones, small bones, everything and she does this. has anyone's dog done this?

Seriously, she barks at everything. Once she knows the person she stops. But I can't introduce her to every soul that walks past the house.

Throughout my life, I have been critisized, put-down, and made fun of because I don't have a dog. I am in middle school, so when someone says something mean to you, you don't forgive and forget easily. No one in my family beleives that I can take care of and support a dog of my own, not even my friends. Its hard to know that the only person you can count on to beleive in you is yourself. Not having a dog has had a major impact on my middle school life. I can't participate in school activities having to do with animals. I can't take feild trips to humain societies without bursting out into tears. I see people who have dogs and don't take care of them and I get mad. I am very elegable to do things around the house, but when I try I am never agnolaged. I don't think my parents understand how I feel, or what it's like to be in my shoes. They both had five dogs when they were growing up. How could I convince my parents that I am responsible enough to take care of a dog?

hi, since last night my dog has been being sick and bringing up all her food, its not straight away after shes ate it, can be as long as 8 hours after, its been going on since last night bout 8 ish she was sick bout 2 times before bed, 4 times during the night and twice today, and when she has no more food to sick up she sicks up flem instead, she also asked to go outside but i didnt get there in time so she done a small very runny poo inside, i phoned the emergency vet tonight who said not to give her any food or water till the morning then to bring her in, i feel so bad for her as she hasnt kept no food down since yesterday so must be starving, and i esp dont understand why she cant have water? also i have to mention that just before she was sick she ate the cat food, could this be the problem? can anyone help me? please

i left my 1 year old at the usual day care for four days. when i retrieved him his eyes were red, he is panting non stop and his sexual organ is protruding. (not at all usual) he was in the sun most of the day and drank a lot of water when he came inside. he is not neutered.

hello...i found a pomeranian 2 months back..in th cold and i kept it with..i hav grown attched to it...when i found it..i looked everywhere for ads bu none were there...i could put posters at i was afraid people would claim to be his owners.....now after 2 months the owner has contacted me and i feel bad for letting him go....how do i get over it?!

I have a lab and a golden retriever. Both are very sweet dogs, but both will pull like there's no tomorrow when excited (by skateboards, cats, rabbits, etc.). The vet and trainer recommended I use a gentle leader, which has helped tremendously (I had already been using the pronged collar, which didn't bother my lab at all). The only problem is, they HATE the gentle leaders. They dread my putting them on them before the walk, and are constantly stopping and trying to rub the gentle leaders off. I know it's not a problem with the fit, as the trainer fitted them accordingly, and I've made some adjustments myself to try to make them more comfortable. I figured it would just take time for them to get used to them, but after TWO MONTHS, the leaders are still bothering them. Has anyone had a similar experience, and if so, what did you do to make it better or how long did it take for your dog to finally get used to them?
